Jaguars volleyball team goes 5-0 at the Willmar Cardinal Classic tournament - Jaguars girls tennis picks up 7th win of the season

The Jaguars volleyball team improved to 16-2 overall this season after going 5-0 and winning the Willmar volleyball tournament today. It is their fourth championship at the Willmar tournament in the last five years.

In the opening match, they defeated New London-Spicer in two sets, with a close 25-23 win in game one.

In the other pool play matches, they beat Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 2-1 and swept Benson 2-0. The Jaguars then defeated a very good Central Minnesota Christian Bluejays team in the semi-finals to advance to the championship match. They needed a third set vs. CMCS to advance to the finals, winning a 16-14 thriller.

In the title match, they played BL-H-S once again, and for the second time of the day played a three-game match to defeat the Mustangs. BL-H-S won the first game before the Jaguars clawed back to win the final two sets by comfortable margins and take the championship.

Early in the tournament, senior Julie Hieserich surpassed the 2,000 set assist mark for her career at B-B-E. Read more on that in this week's local papers.

The 7th-ranked Jaguars now travel to Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta on Monday for a non-conference match. MA/CA will host the Jaguars at the Morris Area Elementary gymnasium.

In a Prairie Conference match on Saturday afternoon, the Jaguars girls tennis team squeezed past New York Mills by a 4-3 score on the home courts. It raised their overall record to 7-12 overall, while they finished the conference schedule 3-1, good for second place alone in their first year in the Prairie.

The Jaguars host a very good Annandale team on Monday to wrap up the regular season.

Scores from the Hancock volleyball tournament on Saturday:
Hancock 2, Breckenridge 0
Hancock 2, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 0 (25-13, 25-20)
