Jaguars boys, girls basketball both win tonight by wide margins

The Jaguars line up during the National Anthem, played by the Osakis High School pep band tonight.

The Jaguars boys basketball team posted a 68-39 win at Osakis, while improving to 9-0 overall. Osakis, who is in Section 6AA, fell to 2-8 with the loss. The boys basketball team hosts Kimball Area on Thursday night this week in a Central Minnesota Conference game. The Cubs are 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the CMC, one game behind the Jaguars in the standings.

In Osakis tonight, the Jaguars jumped out to early leads of 7-0, 13-1, and 15-3 to take control of the first half. Osakis showed its grit by battling back to a 21-13 deficit, but the Jaguars would not let them get any closer as they pulled away for a 40-27 lead at halftime.

In the second half, both teams traded baskets, beginning with a three pointer by Kirby Montbriand, before the Jaguars went on a 12-0 run to break the game wide open. Osakis never threatened the rest of the way, as the Jaguars' defense held them to 12-of-40 shooting from the field for the game.

Great coverage was provided by D-Mac with Smooth Magic 107 of Glenwood.

The Jaguars girls basketball team won 62-41 over visiting Paynesville Area. The Bulldogs led 28-24 at halftime. The Jaguars (3-5, 1-2 CMC) host Holdingford tomorrow night in a Central Minnesota Conference game. The Huskers are 1-2 in the CMC and 4-5 overall.

The Jaguars wrestling team travels to Holdingford for a dual meet on Tuesday night. The Jaguars are 3-7 in dual meets this season, with Holdingford at 9-3. Paynesville Area was to be involved in a triangular with the two teams, but they recently backed out.
