What an awesome win for the Jaguars girls basketball team at Holdingford tonight

Raeann Sorenson (top photo) and Ashley Kircof both had a standout performances for the Jaguars tonight at Holdingford.

Now winners of two games in a row for the first time since the middle of December, the Jaguars girls basketball team won 70-64 in overtime at Holdingford tonight. Ashley Kirckof's heroics forced overtime with 16 seconds left in regulation, and the Jaguars' defense limited the Huskers to one field goal and a free throw in the extra session. The win reverses a 58-54 loss on January 11 to the Huskers.

It was a match up of two teams tied for sixth place in the Central Minnesota Conference, with the Jaguars (8-12) improving to 5-6 in the CMC and Holdingford falling to 4-7. Read more on the important win in next week's local newspapers.

Up next for the girls basketball team: a home game against Osakis next Tuesday night, February 15. The Silverstreaks played tough tonight in Clarissa, falling 50-48 to Eagle Valley.

A real quick update, the Jaguars wrestling team went 1-1 tonight at the Parkers Prairie triangular. I have limited information, but I do know the Jaguars held the host Panthers to three points. Against Paynesville Area, the Jaguars earned 18 points in a loss. Seeded number six in the 11-team Section 5A, the Jaguars will enter post-season action with a 9-14 overall record in dual meets this season. It's their best mark since 2007-2008, when they were 9-10 entering the playoffs.

Here are two results from the triangular last night: Paynesville 48, B-B-E 18 (The Jaguars started out strong in the lower weights, but the Bulldogs won six of the final seven matches.) Paynesville 80, Parkers Prairie 0. More updates will follow on Saturday morning.
