Friday Night Lights Part V: Jaguars win Homecoming! Believe it!

The end of the game! The Jaguars took a knee to wind out the final seconds of the clock after their defense repelled a threat from the Rockets in the final couple minutes of the fourth quarter...

...and leading up to that final play of the game...

This win was HUGE! In a nutshell...

The B-B-E Jaguars football team shook off a 14-7 halftime deficit and held Rockford Area to six second-half points in a wild 28-20 Homecoming win! It marks only the second time in B-B-E school history that the Jaguars have won two Homecoming football games in a row. The last time they did that was in the 1993 and 1994 seasons. (1993 was a 41-6 win over HL-W, while in 1994 the Jaguars beat Benson 15-12 during a 1-7, playoff-less year).

Yes, I'm more than just a little excited about winning two Homecomings in a row. It is vital to do such things to build up a football program. Not to mention all the intangible benefits like community and school pride!

This was absolutely a team win...a team win in every sense of the phrase. Whatever adjustments the B-B-E coaching staff made in the second half worked out great. Rockford Area was still able to put a few nice drives together after halftime, but luckily only one of them resulted in points in the second half.

Up next: state-ranked Maple Lake (5-0, 4-0 CMC) at home next Friday. The Irish beat the heck out of Kimball Area 41-19 tonight. The Cubs were playing without one of their better players, which may be part of the reason for the lopsided score.

One thing is for sure...Jaguars, please keep winning! I do not want to see the Jaguars fall into a #5 seed situation and end up traveling to Minneapolis for the Section 4A playoff opener. Don't let that happen! Rest up, do your homework, keep the grades up, take care of yourselves and practice hard! I am not ready to say we are poised for a playoff run. We have a long ways to go before that.

Here's a video clip from the Homecoming Pep Fest activities earlier today at the high school...

The Pep Fest had a lot of excitement for the 6th-12th grade students who were on hand. Great job to the B-B-E staff and student council members for putting it on.
