Friday Night Lights Part VI: Jaguars stun state-ranked Maple Lake! Yeah, that just happened
Celebrating the big win tonight over a state-ranked team! It's the second year in a row the Jaguars slayed a ranked team in Week 6 on the home gridiron. |
Final on the home turf tonight: B-B-E Jaguars 14, Maple Lake 7! The Jaguars led 6-0 at halftime but fell behind 7-6 for a part of the second half.
The Irish were the #4-ranked team in Class AA coming into the game...not to mention they were 5-0 overall! It'll be a long 65-mile trip back down Highway 55 tonight.
What a night in Jaguar Country!!!
Now 3-2 in the Central Minnesota Conference, the Jaguars are above .500 in the conference for the first time since Week 2 of the 2011 season, when they were 1-0 in the league after a 23-14 win at Holdingford. The three wins in a row mark the first three-game winning streak since the 2008 season, when they won the last two games of the regular season and also the Section 5A playoff opener.
The elation and excitement should be short-lived, though, as their Week 7 and Week 8 opponents both picked up convincing wins tonight - Pierz and Eden Valley-Watkins. Let's not hang our hats on these three wins! Let's go into Pioneers territory next week and hand them their second CMC loss of the year.
I forgot to get a photo of the scoreboard after the game...but here's a view from 49 seconds left in the 4th quarter as the Jaguars threatened to salt the win away with a 3rd touchdown. |
Pierz 40, Rockford 0 (Pioneers demolish the Rockets on the road; they host the Jaguars next week)
Holdingford 14, Kimball Area 13 (Huskers take over first place alone in the CMC...but barely!)

The Jaguars punch in their first touchdown of the game right before halftime...
