Area notebook + Jaguar short takes
A couple things.
Upsala's boys' basketball team is 4-1 with a four-game winning streak after they lost the opener to Sauk Centre 91-88. Last Thursday against a struggling Bertha-Hewitt team, Upsala scorched the nets in a 77-36 win. Senior guard Christian Pekarek drained 36 points on 13/21 field goal shooting, 7/8 free throw shooting and 3/4 shooting on threes. He also had 5 assists and 7 steals. On Friday, the drubbed Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in a Prairie Conference game 68-36.
At a tough Shakopee Invitational this past Saturday, the Osakis wrestling team had four open weights
at 120, 152, 160 and 170. They finished tied with Rocori for 7th place out of 9 teams. I rate Osakis as a main challenger with the Jaguar wrestling team for one of the middle seeds in Section 5A next February. The Jaguars are currently 2-2 but could go into the Christmas break with a 4-3 record if they can manage a 2-1 mark at next Friday's Eden Valley-Watkins Quadrangular. Osakis and state-ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City will also be in attendance. I really hope for wins for the guys over Osakis and EV-W...it will be tough but definitely manageable!
The Jaguars girls' basketball team hosts Paynesville Area tonight for their home opener. Please come out and cheer them on in what should be a very exciting non-conference border battle.
