Jaguars take apart Bulldogs

B-B-E had more fans in the gymnasium than Paynesville did. The Bulldogs are still in rebuilding mode after winning just 9 games in the last 4 seasons, although they should fare reasonably well in the West Central Conference.

The Bulldogs struggled in every facet of the game during the first 10 minutes before they started hitting their shots.

With Paynesville Area coming in with a 5-5 record, the Jaguars boys' basketball team had a capable team on their hands tonight but put it out of reach quickly in the opening minutes. After getting up 29-2, the Jaguars called off the full court trapping press and went into halftime with a 46-21 lead.

For a brief period in the first half, Paynesville went on a 10-2 run. They were severely limited in the opening minutes of the second half, which went into running time with 9 minutes left. Paynesville managed just six points in the first six minutes after halftime and trailed 63-30 with 9:23 left after Nick Benton scored a rebound shot in the paint.

Final: B-B-E 75, Paynesville Area 43. The Jaguars (8-1) now make the trip to Eden Valley-Watkins tomorrow night for an important Central Minnesota Conference game. The Bulldogs fall to 5-6 overall, but one of their wins was over EV-W. The Eagles are 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the CMC.

Here's the final ticks of the first half:

Up in Ashby, the Jaguars girls' basketball team laid a giant egg in a 52-48 loss to the previously winless Arrows. They travel to A-C-GC next Monday to face the Falcons in a game that will be aired on 106.5 FM The Train.

Now it's time to refocus on wrestling! The Jaguar Invitational starts at 2:30pm tomorrow at the high school. Come out and cheer on our Jaguars wrestling team! Teams included are Becker, Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, Minneota and Ottertail Central.
