Believe it! Wrestlers knock off Paynesville

Steven Mady won by pin at 170 pounds, lifting the Jaguars to a 39-16 lead.

The B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team gave all they had from top to bottom in the lineup in a performance for the ages tonight. Paynesville Area, a Section 5A semifinalist a year ago, came to our place for their first action of the season. The Jaguars, falling behind 10-0 after the 106 and 113-pound matches, were unfazed and recorded pin after pin the rest of the night on their way to an incredible 45-34 win!

Josey Tensen's pin at 120 pounds ignited a strong rally for the Jaguars after they fell behind 10-0 to start the match. Kaleb Voss won by pin at 126 pounds, and the wins kept coming and coming.

Spencer Amundson made some quick moves to get out of an early jam in his first period of the 132-pound match, and before you knew it he was up 5-0. He ultimately went up 7-0 and rode the momentum into the third period. Trying to salt away a major decision, he settled for a 7-1 win...but it was a very, very important win to keep the mo-jo on B-B-E's side of the mat.

Recording pins in succession were Adam Jaeger (138) and Colby Schramel (145). Schramel's pin happened so fast I didn't get a chance to write down the time...it happened somewhere in the first 30 seconds!

At 152, freshmen Isaiah Gilbert led 2-0 right out of the gates but then fell behind 6-2 in the middle of the first period. He fought off a pin and had momentum heading into the second period. After getting a takedown in the second period, he got a pin to put the Jaguars up 33-10.

Paynesville Area stopped the Jaguars from running away with it by getting a pin at 160 pounds, but Steven Mady got it rolling again at 170 pounds with a first-period pin. The Bulldogs got a pin at 182, and the Jaguars had 195 open...suddenly the lead was 39-28.

Enter Joe Reller! Reller at 220 pounds had a terrific showing, coming back from an early 2-0 deficit. He got a reversal at about the one-minute mark in period one. In period two he gave up an escape to fall behind 3-2, but with 1:27 left he got a takedown and then cranked and cranked away on his opponent before getting a team win-clinching pin to send his teammates and the huge B-B-E crowd into an electric frenzy. It was crazy! Just the second B-B-E wrestling win over the Bulldogs in school history!!!

Here's Joe Reller winning by pin at 220 pounds to put the Jaguars ahead 45-28:

That was as exciting as it gets for a regular season wrestling match!!! I only wish Paynesville Area could have gotten into the Central Minnesota Conference a year earlier, as tonight would have counted towards the CMC standings. As it is, they will join next year when Rockford Area heads to the Wright County Conference.

Next for the Jaguars is the Maple Grove invitational on Saturday. They won't wrestle at home until January 2 with a home invitational. The next home dual meet is on January 29 with Royalton/Upsala and Parents Night.
