Football updates
Updates from the section semifinal football game will be posted here starting at about 3:15 p.m.
**As the second quarter is about to begin: Minneapolis North 20, B-B-E 0. One of the Polars' touchdowns came on a 70-yard run.
**Another update: the Jaguars have put points on the board! It's a 28-7 deficit. The Polars fumbled the ball away at their own 33-yard line, and the Jaguars then scored on a 30-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Ryan Illies to senior wide receiver Sidney Shacter about midway through the second quarter.
It goes without saying that this Minneapolis North team is tremendously talented. Their core group of players, mostly seniors, have been playing varsity football for the past four seasons. They have made no secret of having a mentality that they're on a mission to win a state championship this fall.
With 2:30 left in the second quarter: North 28, Jaguars 7.
*At halftime: the Jaguars trail 34-7 to the fourth-ranked team in Class 1A in the section semifinals.
*With six minutes left in the third quarter: North 42, Jaguars 7.
While you're here, take a glimpse back to 2008, when the fourth-seeded Jaguars traveled to Minneota in the Section 5A semifinals: http://bbejaguars.blogspot.com/2008/10/ouch-hard-to-sugar-coat-this-one.html ...the Jaguars trailed 33-6 at halftime against the Vikings in that game. What's noteworthy is that the Class of 2009 (football players) were the first group of B-B-E football players to go through the varsity program without a winless season. During their freshmen year, the Jaguars were 2-7. Then 3-7 in 2006, and then 2-7 once again in 2007 before going 5-5 in 2008.
