(VIDEO) Volleyball playoff opener

Here's a collection of photos and video from Friday's volleyball playoff opener:

Up next: the Osakis Silverstreaks! The Jaguars will face Osakis on Tuesday this week (Oct. 30) at Long Prairie-Grey Eagle high school at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Silverstreaks (16-12) were second in the Prairie North Conference with an 8-2 record, one match off of champion Royalton (21-6). The Royals face Benson in the other Sub-Section 5A-South semifinal in a 6 p.m. match that is also hosted at LP-GE.

*Added to this post on Monday night...I peeked at the Secretary of State website and dug up these figures. The B-B-E school district levy referendum passed 735 to 636 (53.61% yes) in 2010. It was a pretty close vote.

In Brooten, the levy passed 139 to 78; in Belgrade the voters approved it 126 to 89; in Elrosa, voters were evenly split 38 to 38 on the question. When you add those figures up, the three major towns of the B-B-E district had 303 "yes" votes and 205 "no" votes. Upon studying all rural townships across the B-B-E district, the levy passed in the rural areas by just 15 votes.

In this week's Voice, look for a "full court press" in support of the 2018 levy referendum. In visiting with folks tonight, my basic message was, "If the school didn't need what they are asking for, they would not be asking for it."

Also happening tomorrow night is the Elrosa Bologna Daze fundraiser at Bucky's Bar. That is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., so stop there on your way north and have some supper!
