What a game! Section semi win (VIDEOS ADDED*!)

*It's Monday night and I'm updating this blog post after returning home from the high school's 4th annual Spooktacular Halloween concert and carnival. What a night!!! After a long, long day that started at 7 a.m. at the Rochester Mayo Clinic...Video is being added below plus extra volleyball coverage...

Was that a football game or what!

After a careful review of my game notes and game footage, here's my official tally from the first half of the Section 4A semifinal game between our B-B-E Jaguars football team and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. In the first half, the Falcons ran 18 plays on six separate drives while earning a total of 12 yards from scrimmage. Across the entire first half, the Falcons moved the ball 12 net yards. Their lone series where they had any appreciable time of possession was on their fifth drive, which had a time of possession of 2 minutes, 16 seconds. After A-C-GC converted a fourth down on that series, their momentum vanished thanks largely to a false start penalty plus a Carson Gilbert quarterback sack with a five-yard loss.

Let that sink in! Six drives, 18 plays and 12 yards gained. Their biggest gain on a single play was on that fifth series, when Casey Struthers caught a pass for 9 1/2 yards on 3rd-and-10. I didn't tally how many tackles for losses that the Jaguars earned in the first half, but it was quite a few!

**Here's a wild video to take in from the third quarter on Saturday...

Meanwhile on offense, the Jaguars racked up 212 yards from scrimmage across six drives. They scored on four possessions and had three successful two-point conversion plays for the 30-0 lead at halftime. Across their six drives, the Jaguars ran 34 plays. Their third drive of the game needed just one play to score from 12 yards out with a time of possession of six seconds. The Falcons showed defensive resolve by forcing the Jaguars to punts on their second and sixth series of the game.

I haven't booked my hotel yet for Thursday night in Fergus Falls, but I will get that done tomorrow. We need to pull out all the stops to be able to cheer on both the volleyball and football teams on Thursday and Friday! The football game starts at 10 a.m. at the FargoDome on Friday morning.

That's all for tonight. I am in Rochester with my oldest daughter for a checkup in the morning at the Mayo Clinic. Good night! I hope to see many of you at the B-B-E music program's Spooktacular concert and games and activities in Belgrade (high school) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

ADDED Monday night...here's additional volleyball coverage with a video clip from the Brandon-Evansville win on Friday night...click over to the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper website: https://tinyurl.com/mvhahu7y. Have you made your travel plans out yet for Thursday and Friday? Both teams need you!!! For the Thursday night volleyball match, be sure to arrive by approximately 7 p.m. or so in order to get situated and prepared to get in the gym once space allows. It will be a packed venue. That I already know. Now it's time to get back to sports writing for the newspaper...
