Girls' basketball playoff seedings; and speech team takes 1st place! (VIDEO)

The B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team has the playoff picture set for the upcoming Sub-Section 5A-East tournament. They recently completed one of the best regular seasons in school history with an 18-8 overall record.

Seeded No. 2 out of 9 teams, the Jaguars will host No. 7-seeded Mille Lacs (9-16 overall) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, February 27. Following the singing of the National Anthem by 4th and 5th grade elementary students, the game tips off at 7 p.m. at B-B-E high school in Belgrade.

Sub-Section 5A-East girls' basketball playoff seeding:
1. Braham (20-5)
2. B-B-E (18-8)
3. Upsala (17-9)
4. Ogilvie (14-11)
5. Swanville (12-12)
6. Maple Lake (5-21)
7. Mille Lacs (9-16)
8. East Central (7-18)
9. St. John's Prep (4-12)

In Sub-Section 5A-West, defending Section 5A champion Walker-Hackensack-Akeley (21-4) is the top seed.

If the Jaguars win their playoff opener, they advance to the semifinal round on Saturday, March 1 at Hinckley-Finlayson high school. Tip-off for that semifinal game would be at about 1:45 p.m.

Shifting to speech news...this is awesome!
At Maple Lake today, the B-B-E speech team earned first place in the Small Schools Division. Eliana Funes placed 6th in Drama. Marlie Schlangen placed 8th in Poetry. In Storytelling, Tia Nelson placed 6th; in Great Speeches, Nelson placed 2nd.

Next: the B-B-E speech team travels to Chatfield next Friday and Saturday for a weekend getaway and an invitational at Chatfield high school on Saturday, March 1.
