They did it! B-B-E Jaguars cap a perfect regular season
The Jaguars definitely enjoyed cutting the nets down tonight...they need to do some net-cutting a few more times this year, though!
Becoming the first team in the Central Minnesota Conference to go undefeated in conference play since the 2000-2001 Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Lakers, the B-B-E Jaguars boys basketball team capped a 26-0 regular season with an 81-44 win over Eden Valley-Watkins tonight. The Jaguars' post-season conquest begins next Thursday, March 10, when they host the winner of the Underwood vs. Parkers Prairie play-in game of the Sub-Section 6A-South tournament.
A hot start fueled tonight's rout over the Eagles, as the Jaguars jumped in front 9-2 two and a half minutes into the game and 21-4 with six minutes gone. Some slack on the defensive end allowed EV-W to score 11 of the next 13 points, but a three-pointer by Brent Koehler with 8:31 left started a 21-5 scoring surge that gave the Jaguars a huge 47-20 lead at the break. The Jaguars outscored the Eagles 10-2 in the first 140 seconds of the final period, which began with all five B-B-E seniors starting in front of the packed hometown crowd. A preview of what next year's starting lineup may look like took over with 12 minutes left, and the Jaguars were on their way to their 26th straight win to this most memorable season.
One thing is for sure, the team can enjoy what they've done so far this weekend, but starting on Monday they are 0-0 just like the 168 other teams in Class A heading into playoffs. Being undefeated brings an extra bit of pressure to the post-season, but I think it's a safe bet that this team is well-suited to handle any pressure that's thrown at them.

Starter introduction for the B-B-E Jaguars boys basketball team, prior to their 2010-2011 regular season finale against Eden Valley-Watkins tonight.
Soaking up the win, and the remarkable 26-0 mark...
Noteworthy: this is the third time in B-B-E school history that a team has gone undefeated in regular season play. Coach Jerry Lindstrom's 1989 edition of Jaguar fastpitch went 11-0 in the regular season and finished 13-1 with a runner-up trophy from District 20 playoff action. He is the current Athletic Director at B-B-E, and he actually founded the girls' fastpitch program in our area, when the Brooten Buccaneers added the sport in the spring of 1987. Coach Carrie Halvorson's 1994 Jaguar volleyball team went 22-0 in the regular season and finished 24-2 overall after finishing runners-up in Sub-Section 3 of the old Region 5 of volleyball under the two class format. Coach Halvorson retired from the volleyball program in 1998, but she has children coming up through the ranks who help keep B-B-E going strong.
