Three Jaguars give it all in the Final Four round of the Section 5A wrestling tournament - but none get through to state
Patrick Rooney in action during his section quarterfinal win on Friday night. He ultimately took third place, a great accomplishment for the sophomore grappler.
Two of three Jaguars who made it into the third-place matches in their respective weight brackets of the Section 5A tournament ended up winning and grabbing a third place finish - Dillon Knutson and Ross Rath. The other, Patrick Rooney, lost by one point to Travis Schiefelbein of Kimball Area. Schiefelbein stalled for most of the match, and Patrick fought hard in a 10-9 loss.
Knutson was able to get into the "true second" place match, where he faced off with state-ranked Ryan Larson of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. Larson won 9-2 and advanced to state out of the 171-pound bracket.
Some video action from Friday...
Connor Goodwin has a nifty blocked shot early in this clip, but the ref called a foul that he had no business calling. Pierz missed both free throws, but they got the ball back while the Jaguars were fighting for the rebound.
