Blast from the past - March 6, 1998 West Central Tribune sports - Jaguar boys basketball open District 20 playoffs
The B-B-E Jaguars, seeded number two in Sub-Section 5AA-20, outlasted a determined Dassel-Cokato squad out of the Wright County Conference in a 72-60 win on their home court. The Chargers finished with a record of 6-17, while the Jaguars improved to 16-7 overall. B-B-E went 8-4 in the West Central South Conference, tying Minnewaska Area and Lac qui Parle Valley for second place. Morris Area won the conference with a final league record of 11-1.
In another quarterfinal game, the New London-Spicer Wildcats upset the Central Minnesota Conference champion Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles 48-46. A 27-2 run that spanned the 2nd and 3rd quarters fueled the #6 seed Wildcats to the win. The Eagles (16-7 finish) missed a 22 foot shot at the buzzer.
Paynesville Area upset #4 Kimball Area 59-54 in the other quarterfinal. The Cubs finish their season 13-10.
