School Board Meeting Monday Night at the High School

The meeting begins at 7:30. I'll be getting enrollment figures for the 2008-2009 year. I'm anxious to find out if we've held our own and actually slowed the recent annual drop in K-12 enrollment. From what I've seen and heard, we have. A very good thing. **Update from after the meeting... I confirmed with Superintendent Bullard that the enrollment has indeed held steady. Here's a basic "crunch" of the numbers: On the final day of the 2007-2008 year, the school had 690 students in the system, K-12. In the first six weeks of school for the 2008-2009 year, the school has had 725 students. Roughly 20 students are children of seasonal workers who will be leaving the district for the winter months and returning next spring. Even with that, that still leaves us with around 705 students. Considering that 67 seniors graduated last year, and only 48 are in the Kindergarten class right now, something exciting is happening in the B-B-E school district. We've had new families move into the area, and their kids are now B-B-E students. Very exciting indeed.

I stopped by the Jaguars football practice today at the high school athletic complex. Coach Richards was leading the team drills in preparation for Tuesday's home playoff football opener. The Jaguars will host Lakeview of Cottonwood (5-3 record) at 7:00. I label the Lakeview team as "dangerous" and more than able to upset our Jaguars, so our team must come out mentally prepared for a tough, hard-hitting game.
