Jaguars Girls Tennis at Sub-Section 5A-West Individuals -- Johnson/Braegelman Duo Advances to Semi-Finals

Six of the top performers on the Jaguars girls tennis team performed at the Sub-Section 5A-West individual tournament today. The tournament was held at the New London-Spicer High School tennis courts.

The doubles combination of Laura Johnson and Tia Braegelman won their quarterfinal match against a Maccray doubles team. They will play at 2:00 on Thursday (Oct 9) in the sub-section semi-finals, back at the NL-S High school courts.

One exciting bit of information is that the Johnson/Braegelman doubles team was seeded #4. I will go back into the archives and double-check, but I think this is the highest seed a B-B-E tennis doubles combo has earned in school history. Laura Johnson and Tia Braegelman will pair up for this combo. Coach Westrom feels they have an excellent chance of advancing to the Section 5A tournament.

In school history, only three players have made it to the section tournament in tennis, all in singles play. Megan Vliem (Class of 2000), Colleen Radermacher (Class of 2005), and Anna Brandt in 2005 (foreign-exchange student in the 2005-2006 academic year).

The Jaguars volleyball and cross country teams are in action on Thursday at Kimball Area.

-The cross country teams will compete in the Central Minnesota Conference meet, beginning at 4:00 with the Junior High race. This meet is being held at the Kimball Golf Club, located on the south side of Kimball, past their baseball complex.

-The volleyball team will be able to clinch a share of the Central Minnesota Conference championship with a win over the Cubs. On the minnesota-scores.net QRF ratings, the Jaguars are the 2nd-ranked team in Class A (183 teams). They edge out an 18-4 Minneota Vikings team, who is third, by 4/10ths of a point. This is the highest rating the Jaguars have ever received on this lofty ranking system.
