What's This I Hear? ...

Just a brief update on Wednesday night... I've heard the following more than a few times this week, which troubles me. While the Jaguars football team will have no worries about over-confidence going into their Section 5A semi-final match-up at Minneota on Saturday... talk is going around that the Jaguars volleyball team has had "state" on their minds and in their conversations a little more than they should have recently. They are a long ways from the big dance, the playoffs haven't even started for them. I absolutely do not want to see a repeat of 2006, when the Jaguars were upset to Montevideo in the section final.

I will say it often over the next 10 days or so...Section 5A in volleyball is very tough, MUCH tougher than in 2007. Read this week's newspaper, you'll see a list of teams in one of my articles that I feel will give the Jaguars a tough challenge in their bid for their third state trip in the past four seasons.

Over-confidence has taken down WAY too many Jaguars teams in the past. I've seen it way too often, in boys basketball, girls basketball, and yes.. volleyball as recent as 2006. This year's Jaguars volleyball team has the most potential of any state-quality team B-B-E has ever had, in any sport. They are very well-coached, hard-working, dedicated, and immensely talented.

Alright Jaguars... show me that I have nothing to worry about, and that you'll come out firing on all cylinders in every playoff match, starting with Friday night's sub-section quarterfinals...

A quick piece of info from the Marshall Independent... Minneota head football coach Chad Johnston was quoted today saying about the Jaguars football team, "We saw them play and I think they'll be slinging the ball all over the place," said Johnston. "They have a good quarterback, but he throws more than he runs. This time of year, it doesn't matter what team you play. You have to play or it's done."

(To your last sentence, Coach Johnston, well-stated!)

**Another important update...Glenwood's radio station will broadcast the football game on Saturday. Here's an e-mail I got from their announcer, Dave McClurg...

"Thanks for the info on the Jaguars' game on Saturday. Nice to be extending the season!

We will be covering the BBE game at Minneota Saturday afternoon. I anticipate being on the air with our pre-game coverage around 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
