2009 Pope County Fair in Glenwood is in full swing

The Pope County Dairy farmers put on a $2 pork sandwich feed on Thursday night, an event that was well attended.

At the Glacial Ridge Health System booth, Virginia Terhaar of rural Brooten participates in the free ring toss.

A handful of B-B-E youth participated in the 4-H shows.

A large number of B-B-E area businesses are on the long list of sponsors of the Pope County 4-H program, seen in the photo below.

The B-B-E businesses listed above are: Anderson Farms of Belgrade, Bohmer Agency, Bonanza Valley State Bank, Brooten Commercial Club, Halls Farms, and Belgrade Livestock Auction/Schaefer Cattle Company.

Thursday and Friday nights the grandstand hosts a Rodeo, while Saturday night is a Tractor/Truck Pull. The grandstand shows culminate on Sunday afternoon with a good ol' Demo Derby.

It seems too easy nowdays to forget the plight of our farmers, even if you live in a small town in Rural America. It's a damn shame, too, how the public just shrugs its collective shoulders whenever we hear reports of falling commodity prices and dropping farm income. I'm not sure about you, but I sure don't want to depend on foreign countries for our food!
