Jaguars girls tennis hosts Triangular on Friday at the High School courts to open the 2009 season

Laura Johnson and Tia Braegelman, shown in action at the 2008 Sub-Section 5A-North playoffs, where they lost two heartbreakers in the Final Four round.

The Jaguars girls tennis team opened their 2009 season with a home triangular on Friday against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Upsala-Swanville Area and Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd.

The Jaguars fell 6-1 to LP-GE/USA, being successful in only one of their four singles matches.

No word on how they fared against LqPV/DB.

Their next action is on Thursday, August 27, at the Minnewaska Area Quadrangular that includes the host Lakers as well as Parkers Prairie. The meet begins at 9:00am.

Third-year head coach Katy Westrom continues her hard work in building up the B-B-E girls tennis program. She is joined by first-year Junior Varsity coach Colleen (Radermacher) Borgerding, a 2005 graduate of B-B-E who played for the Jaguars throughout her high school career.

The Jaguars girls tennis team has six seniors on the roster, but only two of them have varsity experience coming into the season. Laura Johnson and Tia Braegelman, two very talented and experienced tennis players, will lead the Jaguars in the 2009 season; both placed in the Final Four of the Sub-Section 5A-North tennis tournament in 2008. They placed better than any previous doubles team in B-B-E history.

The rest of the varsity roster is filled out with two juniors, six sophomores, one freshmen, and three eighth graders.

The team was also in action today, in a home match at the High School tennis courts. All home varsity tennis matches will be held at the High School beginning this season, a change over how it's been done since the 2001 season.
