Jaguars volleyball wins 18th match of the year

Celebrating another kill shot - they had quite a few tonight even though MA/CA played tough the whole night on defense.

The starting lineup gets fired up at Morris tonight.

The Jaguars volleyball team swept Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta in three sets tonight, 25-20, 25-16, 25-16. It was a fast-paced, competitive match that lasted just a bit over one hour at the Morris Area elementary gymnasium.

MA/CA jumped out to a 7-2 lead in game one before Julie Hieserich served up four straight points to get the Jaguars back in it. An ace serve by Maggie Gruber put the Jaguars ahead 9-8 and they never trailed.

In game two, the Jaguars overcame another slow start, trailing at various times by one or two points up to an 8-8 tie.

The Jaguars wore down the Tigers in game three, closing out the match with an 11-2 run capped by two Taylor Braegelman kills.

Up next for the Jaguars: a trip into eastern Minnesota to Pierz, where they will battle the Pioneers for first place in the Central Minnesota Conference. Both teams are currently 4-0 in the league, the final teams without a blemish against conference foes.

In today's latest release of the Class A coaches poll, the Jaguars slipped one spot to #8, even though they entered the week on a 13-match winning streak. Canby switched spots with the Jaguars in the poll, moving up to #7. Nevis remains at #5.

In a non-conference home match, the Jaguars girls tennis team lost 7-0 to Annandale. The Jaguars (7-13) enter postseason play with a road match at Clara City against the #4-seeded MACCRAY Wolverines on Tuesday this week.
