Jaguars boys basketball blows apart K-M-S in a 107-22 win to open the 2010-2011 season - Girls basketball drops close one at Benson

Kevin Kuefler wins the tip off for the 2010-2011 Jaguars boys basketball season tonight.

(Video) The 2010-2011 boys basketball season tips off for the Jaguars.

Brian Goodwin dribbles out of the backcourt late in the first half tonight at A-C-GC.

In their season opener tonight, the #6-ranked Jaguars boys basketball team led 68-13 at halftime over K-M-S in the opening round of the A-C-GC tournament. With 11:34 left in the first half, the Jaguars had opened up a 24-3 lead. With 4:09 left in the first half, four reserves were subbed in with the Jaguars leading 49-11.

Final score: 107-22 - a rout as I predicted. The telling sign about this team is that regardless of who is on the floor, starters or reserves, they are going to do all kinds of damage this season.

The championship game of the A-C-GC tournament will be held next Saturday night at 8:00pm. The opponent for the Jaguars will be West Central Area, who shook off some poor first half play and rebounded from a 27-20 halftime deficit to post a 63-53 win over the host A-C-GC Falcons.

Up next for the Jaguars boys basketball team: a trip to Melrose on Tuesday night to face the Class AA Dutchmen in a non-conference game of neighboring rivals.

The 107 points scored is not a school record, as the Jaguars passed the century mark on December 17, 2007, against visiting E.C.H.O. Charter School. Here's a link to my blog post from that game, featuring a photo of Zach Roelike working down low...
http://bbejaguars.blogspot.com/2007/12/jaguars-boys-basketball-passes-century.html. During the second half of tonight's 107-22 win, the game clock did not stop until the final buzzer sounded. The game started at 6:10pm and finished exactly one hour later.

Just for fun, here's the boxscore from that 125-37 win in 2007: Scoring for B-B-E: Jordan Beier 21, Justin Mathiason 5, Steven Gruber 8 (8 rebounds, 3 steals), Michael Rodgers 13 (3 steals), Zach Roelike 10, Dusty Gruber 4 (7 assists), Jackson Illies 10, Shane Weller 10 (8 rebounds), Alex Thompson 4 (3 steals), Josh Roelike 8 (8 rebounds), Joey Gruber 3, Jared McCleary 7 (10 rebounds), Matt Goodwin 5, Ryan Weller 12 (8 rebounds), Kalle Kaitala 1

Action from the second half, with the Jaguars opening up an 81-13 lead with 14:20 left in the game.

More action from the second half, with the Jaguars leading 95-20.

With under a minute left in the first half, Brian Goodwin goes coast-to-coast with a driving layup in traffic for the first varsity points of his career. He snares a rebound 22 seconds into this video clip. I couldn't help but say "wow" when it happened.

At the Benson Fibrominn tournament tonight, the Jaguars girls basketball team trailed 41-20 at halftime against Benson. Final score: Benson 70, B-B-E 59. The Braves, who were sub-section runners-up in Section 6AA last year, have seven seniors on the roster.

In the other semi-final game of the Fibrominn tournament, MACCRAY defeated Prairie Seeds Academy 46-43.

PSA is a new charter school located in Brooklyn Park, MN. They are coached by the 1998 Miss Basketball winner, Tamara Moore, one of the most talented basketball players to ever play in Minnesota. She graduated from Minneapolis North High School in 1998 and starred with the Wisconsin Badgers from 1999-2002.

Moore then played in the WNBA for seven teams (Miami, Minnesota, Detroit, Phoenix, New York, Los Angeles, and Houston) in her six year career. Moore averaged 4.4 ppg in her pro career.

The Jaguars girls basketball team is in action next Thursday at non-conference Ortonville.
