Jaguars get five wrestlers into the semifinals at the Paynesville Tournament

Junior Daniel Rooney won by pin in his opening round match tonight in Paynesville.

Sophomore Patrick Rooney wins his opening round match via pin in Paynesville tonight.

In an eight-team tournament invitational at Paynesville Area tonight, the Jaguars wrestling team has landed five matmen in the semifinals.

Austin Jaeger, Ross Rath, Daniel Rooney, Patrick Rooney, and Tyler Tensen battled in the 6pm semifinal round.

Teams competing with the host Bulldogs and the Jaguars are Becker, Holdingford, Renville County West/Maccray, Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta, Sartell, and Watertown-Mayer.

A few notes after hearing some final results: Tyler Tensen (119) and Patrick Rooney (160) earned individual titles at the Paynesville Area tournament. Patrick won 8-3 in his championship match. Ross Rath (112) earned a championship match berth, but lost a title bid in a 6-1 decision. Daniel Rooney (140) also fell in his championship match, falling in a 3-1 decision.
