Melrose Area lost 82-76 in overtime tonight; Pierz (21-7) edged the Dutchmen to advance to the Sub-Section 6AA-North championship game. They'll take on Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. Last season, Pierz lost 85-82 to New London-Spicer in this same game in overtime. This is Pierz's first sub-section final berth since 2009; that year, they lost to eventual state-entrant Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 60-57 in overtime in the Sub-Section 5AA-East championship. Pierz also made the sub-section final in 2005 and 2006.
