Friday Night Lights I is a bust (VIDEOS*)

I'll start out with the bad and end on an optimistic note here. (Videos have been added on Friday night and on Saturday morning.)

The first installment of Friday Night Lights for the B-B-E Jaguars football team was a disaster from start to finish. Some of what transpired was out of their hands. Junior receiver Ryan Jensen suffered a severe injury in the second quarter and was taken off the field by ambulance. That was very tough to see. Pray for him and for a sound, efficient recovery. Also out of the hands of the Jaguars was seeing K-M-S play with an especially high level of energy and intensity. It was almost too much at times, as K-M-S committed numerous penalties throughout the game, especially in the first half. At times it seemed like every third or fourth play resulted in a K-M-S penalty. Oddly enough, the Jaguars rarely were able to capitalize on those penalties. What was in the hands of the Jaguars was their own ability to play with a high level of energy and intensity. Unfortunately, that did not happen. The result was a 42-6 season-opening loss on Friday Night Lights I.

**Here's a video featuring a few things that went right for B-B-E. It starts with the opening play of the second quarter, where the Jaguars stopped B-B-E on fourth down:

It can seem rash to use the word "disaster" for a game, but here's some of what I've got to back up my initial statement on this blog post. K-M-S finished with 438 offensive yards compared to just 169 by the Jaguars. The Fighting Saints ran 67 yards from scrimmage compared to B-B-E's 44 plays. K-M-S led 20-0 at halftime and 34-6 after three quarters of play. K-M-S wide receiver Hunter Kallstrom had seven catches for 152 yards with three touchdowns...that's just 17 yards shy of B-B-E's entire offensive production. Kallstrom also had eight carries for 40 rushing yards. K-M-S's other featured wide receiver, Isaac Rudningen, finished with seven catches for 101 yards.

The Jaguars broke up the shutout when Braeden Michels caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Luke Dingmann. Michels score came with 1:41 left in the third quarter.

The Jaguars have a chance now to dust themselves off and regroup. What's next is the home opener next Friday when they host Maple Lake. They can recover from this. The season has seven more games on the schedule. That is seven chances to redeem themselves and make sure that this game does not define their 2022 season.
