Volleyball defeats Cubs, rainfall halts tennis action (Updates, Video*)

After getting out to a 2-0 lead in sets tonight at Kimball Area, the B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team stumbled in game three before finishing strong in a 25-16 win in game four to defeat the host Cubs. Game scores were 25-20, 25-19, 16-25, 25-16.

Coach Hunter attempted to stretch out the depth of the team and had reserves Bree Thieschafer, Faith Radermacher, Kamie Fischer and Mariah Koenig all play in one set each. Overall, 12 players saw action in the varsity match. Five players had 3 or more kills, and the Jaguars were led by Brooklyn Fischer's 15 kills on 42 attacks. Seven Jaguars served in the match, and Kenna Lieser racked up three ace serves with a perfect 23-for-23 mark at the service line.

Now 2-0 in the Central Minnesota Conference and 6-4 overall, the Jaguars will have a one-day layoff before getting on an early bus ride for about a 102-mile trip to Crosby-Ironton for a tournament on Saturday. Kimball Area falls to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the CMC; they beat A-C-GC 3-1 in their conference opener a week ago.

Here's a video from game two of the home opener against New London-Spicer a little over a week ago:

Ironically, I spoke about not wanting to jinx the lead, as the Jaguars held a 9-4 lead when I started recording. They had a lead as wide as 17-9 later in the game before NL-S stormed back to win that and game three for the sweep.

For the B-B-E Jaguars girls' tennis team, their conference match in Belgrade against LPGE/USA was halted due to oncoming rain and a possible thunderstorm. When they stopped action at about 6 p.m., the Jaguars and Thunder were sitting in a 2-2 tie. Yikes!! The stakes are high there for conference standings, so I will find out when that match will be completed.

A programming note...Friday night's home football game will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood, who also streams online for convenient listing anywhere on earth! More on the home football opener will be added in a blog post coming on Friday afternoon.
