Lady Jaguars Basketball -- Overcome First Half Deficit to Win 54-48 Win Over the Irish
On a very frigid first day of February, the Lady Jaguars traveled the hour-long trip down Highway 55 to face CMC rival Maple Lake tonight and came away with a hard-fought 54-48 come-from-behind win over the Irish. After trailing at halftime 28-25, the Lady Jaguars drained three treys on a 10-3 run that put them ahead 35-31 in the first few minutes of the second half. It was a slugfest the remainder of the game, and the Lady Jaguars pulled ahead in the final minute for their fifth conference win of the season.
They are 5-4 in the CMC and 8-7 overall, marking the first time since February 1998 that they are above .500 in the final month of the regular season.
Tonight around the Central Minnesota Conference...
At Holdingford, the Huskers almost threw a big wrinkle into Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted's designs on earning a conference championship. The Lakers were able to come out with a win, though, 54-49, to raise their CMC record to 8-1 and 16-4 overall. They have won nine of their past 10 games, a good run for the defending Sub-Section 5AA-20 champion Lakers, whose only loss in 2007 is a 47-38 setback at Eden Valley-Watkins.
At Pierz, the Pioneers did all they could to wreck Eden Valley-Watkins designs on becoming conference champions for the third straight season, yet the Eagles were able to leave town with a 60-55 win. Pierz is now 4-5 in the CMC at fifth place, while the Eagles are 8-1 for a first-place tie with Howard Lake. Our Lady Jaguars sit alone in fourth place at 5-4.

The Lady Jaguars now have a small break in action until next Tuesday (Feb 6), when they host Rockford in their second match up with the Rockets, who sit alone in third place in the CMC. A win over the Rockets would lift the Lady Jaguars into a tie for third place in the CMC. In December at Rockford, the Lady Jaguars caved in the final two minutes and blew a nine-point lead, losing 74-72. Their record since that game is 7-3.
