Jaguars Girls and Boys Basketball Squads Win Tonight.. Girls 58-46 Over Pierz, Boys Defeat Swanville 71-56

The boys basketball team (5-5) defeated Swanville 71-56 at home tonight, while the girls knocked off Pierz in a home CMC matchup. The girls basketball team, which is 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the CMC, reversed a loss in their conference opener in December at Pierz.

Against Pierz, the Jaguars led 9-3 early in the first half, and never gave up their lead. The Pioneers trailed 15-14 with 4:10 left before halftime, and that was as close as they would get. In the second half, the Jaguars started with an 11-0 run to blow the game open. Pierz would cut the deficit down to 7 points on two occasions (42-35, 47-40), but the Jaguars would persevere in a physical contest to win by double digits.

Girls basketball CMC scores:
Eden Valley-Watkins 62, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 57 (The state-ranked Eagles escaped Howard Lake with a win)
Holdingford 60, Rockford 44
Maple Lake 50, Kimball Area 34

Non-Conference girls scores:
Sauk Centre 76, Foley 32 (West Central North Conference game)
Osakis 84, Swanville 28 (Prairie Conference game)

Boys basketball scores:
Paynesville Area 71, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 70 in OT
Pierz 72, Albany 63

The girls hoops team travels to Mayer Lutheran on Saturday afternoon to face the Crusaders, who are 9-6 overall and most recently lost a close 57-48 game tonight with Jordan (#3-ranked team in Class AA, 14-1 overall record).

The boys travel to Kimball on Friday night.

The Jaguars wrestling team is at the NL-S Tournament on Friday night.

The Jaguars Danceline squad is at the Albany Invitational on Saturday.

A busy weekend ahead of us, during what may be (hopefully) the coldest weekend of the winter.
