B-B-E Jaguars boys basketball, 2009-2010 Central Minnesota Conference champions

The 2009-2010 B-B-E Jaguars boys basketball team, huddled before tip-off.

The Jaguars boys basketball team clinched a share of the Central Minnesota Conference championship with a huge 78-39 win over last-place Holdingford on Tuesday night. After the program was snake-bitten with conference runner-up finishes with one-game margins in 1991, 1997, 2002, and 2003, they have now won two conference titles in a row.

The win improves their overall record to 22-3, which ties the school record set last season for the most wins in the regular season. They are 12-1 in the CMC with one game remaining, on the road on Friday at Eden Valley-Watkins.

Game recap:
After the Huskers jumped in front 5-0 to start the game, the Bennett Weller show came to town, as the junior guard drained three straight field goals, including one beyond the arc, to give the Jaguars a 7-5 lead.

The Huskers (1-12 CMC, 5-19) put up a fight in the game's first few minutes, with freshmen Taylor Milbrandt scoring nine of his team's first 11 points. The Jaguars held a slim 13-11 lead with 12:26 to go in the half.

Coach Montbriand called a timeout, after which the Jaguars showed a scorched-earth policy on both ends of the court.

Shots rained early and often for B-B-E, and Holdingford seemed to lay down in the process.

A shot from three-point range by Matt Goodwin gave them a 25-11 lead, and minutes later the scoring rampage gave the Jaguars a 33-11 lead after Taylor Cobb hit a sweeping hook shot in low block.

At halftime, the score stood at 41-19.

Right out of the games in the second half, the Jaguars poured it on for a 52-21 lead.

At the 10:43 mark in the second half, a Casey Murdock field goal gave the Jaguars an insurmountable 63-24 lead. Making it even more enjoyable was the heavy substitution that Coach Montbriand employed nearly the entire game.

More on the game will be posted later on.

It is only the second time in B-B-E history that the boys basketball team has earned a conference championship.
