Jaguars girls basketball is in back-and-forth battle in the playoff opener, trails 20-18 at halftime, ultimately falls 57-51 in OT

Sophomore Raeann Sorenson led the Jaguars with a career-high 22 points in their loss tonight to Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in the Sub-Section 6A-South playoff opener.


The Jaguars girls basketball team is in a tough battle against #9-seeded Hillcrest Lutheran Academy tonight.

They trailed 20-18 at halftime, then pulled ahead 22-20, then fell behind 23-22 in the opening minutes of the second half. The Jaguars actually fell behind by as many as nine points in the second half before an 8-0 run got them back into it.

A 39-35 lead late in regulation was not enough, as the Comets tied the game in a wild final minute. The Jaguars actually came from behind with 14 seconds left, after Raeann Sorenson sank two free throws to put her team up 45-44.

**The game went to overtime with the score at 45-45. Hillcrest Lutheran Academy went 1-of-2 at the free throw line with 0.8 seconds on the clock to tie the game.

The Comets ultimately won the game by a 57-51 score in overtime. They will take a 10-15 overall record up against #1-seeded Parkers Prairie in the Sub-Section 6A-South quarterfinals on Thursday night.

The Comet defense shut down B-B-E's inside game, as the Jaguars' inside post scoring was held to a total of 12 points, plus, they turned the ball over 27 times. HLA held a 38-24 edge on the boards with B-B-E getting only three offensive rebounds in the game, compared to nineteen for the Comets.

The Jaguars finish the season 11-16 overall. They have now won 11 or more games in every season since 2003-2004, when they were 12-15 overall.
