Friday Night Lights Part VI is...Saturday
Brian Goodwin attempts a pass at Husky Stadium in the 2012 Section 4A championship. |
The game between the B-B-E Jaguars football team and Maple Lake on Saturday has a 1:00pm kickoff time at Husky Stadium on the campus of St. Cloud State University. Get your car pools lined up! We need a big cheering section at SCSU to give our Jaguars all the support we can muster as they go for win number five on the season.
The Jaguars will have to return the favor for what Maple Lake's volleyball team did to our girls last night. The game will feature two teams both tied for second place in the Central Minnesota Conference standings at 3-1 each. Holdingford sits at 4-0 at the top of the league.
Currently Maple Lake's football field is waterlogged and would sustain major damage if the game was held there tonight. It appears that it will continue raining today and make conditions even worse. For many area high schools, their football fields are going to take a beating tonight. I've heard that some fields could suffer "thousands of dollars" of damage if they have to take a game tonight.
An interesting side note: Rockford's football field is "open" tonight with the Rockets traveling to Pierz. I bet their phone is ringing off the hook as schools in their neighborhood ask to rent their turf for the night.
B-B-E (4-1 overall) is in an extremely tight race for the number one playoff seed in Section 4A...Mayer Lutheran, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City and Minneapolis North are also in the running for that important playoff ranking.
Besides getting to play on a college campus, another upside to all this: we all get quality time at home with family tonight!
**One thing the game won't interfere with is the 2013 Fall Fitness Finale, a special fundraiser for the Rich Vos Scholarship Fund and the B-B-E Food Shelf. The first-annual event will take place tomorrow starting at the B-B-E High School.
It's a 14-mile freestyle fitness event that starts at 8:00am for runners/walkers (14 miles), 8:30am for combination biking and running (3.5 mile relay option) and 8:45am for bikers (14 miles).
The path runs south of the B-B-E high school, jogs west on "teacher's road" (the Stearns/Kandiyohi County line) and then back north on Stearns County Road 18 to the Prairie View Community Golf Course.
Sign-up details will be posted later this morning.
