State wrestling team updates

Carson Huls of Pierz won a 7-2 decision over Ryan Torkelson of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at the 195-pound division to hand the Pioneers a win in the Class 1A quarterfinals at Xcel Energy Center today. The win by Huls made the score 32-19 with just two weights left to wrestle.

Pierz's Austin Kickmann then made the team score 38-19 when he pinned K-M-S's Michael Doubek with a time of 3:57.

Troy Fischer than put an exclamation point on Pierz's win when he pinned Brody Forsell in a time of just 22 seconds to make the final score Pierz 44, K-M-S 19.

In another Class 1A quarterfinal match, West Central Area-Ashby-Brandon-Evansville defeated Pipestone Area 30-29 to advance to the Final Four for the first time in the paired program's short history. WCA/A/BE was seeded No. 3, while Pipestone Area was unseeded.
