Saints run ends
The Saints prepare to take the field at Green Isle's Irish Yard for pregame warm-up drills at state. |
Jordan defeated the Elrosa Saints 4-0 in the Sweet 16 round of the Class C state amateur baseball tournament on Saturday night in Green Isle. Elrosa had five hits in the game, but they could not get the clutch hit when needed with runners on base. It was a solid game from start to finish, but the Brewers had a bit more firepower and used that to advance to the Elite Eight round of state.
Here's some video from later in the game, with Elrosa leaving one stranded. It was indicative of the entire game, when they had runners on but couldn't get them home.
Elrosa finishes the best season in program history with a 24-11 overall record. This is the fourth time they've played in the Sweet 16 at state (2002, 2009, 2016, 2017).
I'm already looking forward to next year! These last two seasons have been very exciting to follow, and I expect more of that in 2018.
Also, good luck to Lake Henry as they compete in the Elite Eight at state on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Hamburg. Their opponent will be Faribault. If the Lakers win, they will play again at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night in Hamburg against the winner of Jordan / New Prague.
