Heading back to state
For the third year in a row, the Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team will compete in the Class C state tournament. The Saints (15-7) earned a return ticket to the big show with a 2-1 win over Lake Henry this afternoon in the second round of the Region 15C tournament.
Cody Eichers drilled a one-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the go-ahead run. The score was tied 1-1 heading into the fifth inning. Matt Schmitz's fielder's choice with an RBI scored Kevin Kuefler on no outs in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead.
Aaron Vogt started and went the distance for Elrosa with a truly impressive performance over nine innings. He scattered 11 hits, issues no walks and earned five strikeouts.
Next: spread the word!! The Elrosa Saints play on Friday night, August 10 at 8 p.m. in Farming; the opponent will be Richmond! The Royals were regular season Stearns County League South champions. The winner of that Elrosa/Richmond game advances to the region championship game that will be played on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Richmond defeated St. Martin by a 6-3 score in another state-qualifying game.
In the Region 15C elimination games today:
The No. 4 seed out of the Stearns County League North division has eliminated the No. 2 seed, with Meire Grove beating New Munich tonight by a 9-5 score to end the Silverstreaks' season.
The No. 4 seed from the SCL-South, Farming, ended the SCL-North's No. 3 seed's season. The Flames beat Spring Hill 5-3 to advance to the second weekend of the tournament.

In Region 4C at Atwater, the Regal Eagles lost 9-1 to the Milroy Yankees in a state-qualifying game. The Eagles stay alive and play again next weekend, Saturday, August 11 in Atwater against Paynesville.
