Such an exciting end to the first half! (VIDEO)

I'm referring to the Homecoming football game against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City last week...the B-B-E Jaguars football team led 36-0 after an incredible first-half defensive performance. The Jaguars shined at all facets of the game while outgaining the Falcons by a total margin of 255 yards to 30 yards. Crazy.

Further below in this post, I've got a breakdown coming for last Friday's Browerville game. They had a tough, tough loss to visiting Upsala/Swanville Area after they took a 14-0 lead midway into the second quarter. The Patriots then scored 15 unanswered points for the win.

VIDEO starting with about 2:36 left in the second quarter:

While the Jaguars were defeating A-C-GC 48-12 last Friday, Browerville was in a battle royale on their home field and lost 15-14 to guest Upsala/Swanville Area. The Tigers are on a mission to finish the season 4-4 overall, and they can't do that without winning tonight when our Jaguars invade Jack Dressen Stadium and Walt Lucas Field in Browerville. They have lost two straight games and have just one win since they took apart Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 42-0 in the season opener at Long Prairie. In Section 4A, the Tigers are ranked No. 5 out of seven teams, and they feel they have a shot at the No. 3 seed if things go their way and they finish at 4-4 in the next two weeks.

There's a lot riding on this game, because the Jaguars cannot afford to lose tonight if they want a shot at the No. 1 or No. 2 seed. If the Tigers win tonight and the QRF scales rank B-B-E and Browerville closely, the better seed could go to Browerville. U/SA will likely finish 4-4 overall by defeating LP-GE this afternoon (daytime game in Upsala) and losing at Kimball next week. We'll see how this all shakes out!

Also, I am unaware if Browerville has any video stream taking place. I'll check into that. As I said in the last post, the team is gonna have to win without me! I am out of town this weekend enjoying a getaway with my wife.

More to come. I do have time on Friday afternoon to break down the Browerville vs. U/SA game and give a report here. Stay tuned!

*Here's a video from Homecoming football night last Friday, featuring the "sights and sounds" of B-B-E's 35th annual Homecoming week:

And now we get to talking about Browerville...

BROWERVILLE vs. U/SA GAME NOTES from last week:
*FIRST HALF:
The Tigers converted third down on their first series with run to the U/SA 32-yard line. They later converted fourth-and-two to get into the red zone. Then on second down on the U/SA 18-yard line, the Tigers scored on a reception in the far right flats. Browerville has a talented 6'2", 224-pound tight end and linebacker in Parker Duncan. He was the recipient of that touchdown pass to make it 6-0 with 6:44 left in the first quarter.

The two-point conversion was intercepted in the end zone.

U/SA went three-and-out while being held to just four yards of net offense on their first series. They punted with 5:32 on the clock, and the punt was spot on and sailed deep in the red zone before getting a hugely favorable bounce to land untouched at about the Browerville five-yard line. The Tigers lost two yards on the first play, so they were back to their own three-yard line on second down. Senior 5'9" 160-pound running back Tanner Fischer converted third-and-long with a 10-yard run off right tackle to move the chains.

Sophomore Mason Bruder then ran for 7 yards, but the Tigers got just one additional yard on the next two plays before punting with 46 seconds on the clock from their own 25-yard line.

U/SA started their second possession of the game on their own 32-yard line. Two plays later they were in Tigers territory to start the second quarter. Disaster struck for the Patriots, when quarterback Max Lange was unable to corral a high snap. Browerville recovered the ball on the 50-yard line with 11:29 on the clock. Four plays later the Tigers had third-and-five at the U/SA 36-yard line. Third down was a bust, but the Tigers converted on fourth-and-five when Bruder caught a slant pass to the left and ran down the left sideline for a 36-yard touchdown with 7:37 left. The two-point conversion catch was good on a halfback option pass to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead.

U/SA started their third series on their 40-yard line after they had a penalty on the kickoff. The Tigers stopped Max Lange in the backfield on the first play with an eight-yard loss. U/SA's Jack Primus caught a pass on second down, but their third-down play resulted in just a two-yard gain by Lange to bring fourth-and-12 with 5:20 on the clock.

Browerville started their fourth series of the game on their 32-yard line with that initial 14-0 lead. One penalty hurt them, and U/SA's defense stepped up to force Browerville to punt from their 40-yard line with 3:00 left. I lost track of what happened next, but the Patriots had first down on the Browerville 46-yard line with 2:40 left. U/SA's next play resulted in a Lange-to-Primus 46-yard touchdown catch with 2:33 left. Primus caught a deep bomb at the 10-yard line with single coverage draped over him.

The Tigers malfunctioned on their fifth series of the first half, and their punt landed short at their own 44-yard line with 1:59 to go. U/SA then moved the chains twice and got into the red zone with under 50 seconds left. Primus kicked a 30-yard field goal with 19 seconds left, and Browerville later took a 14-9 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF:
Browerville was especially tough on U/SA's running game in the first half, and the Patriots needed a few big passes to stay in the game before halftime. This tough defense continued for the Tigers in the third quarter with U/SA having the first possession. U/SA punted on fourth-and-11 at their own 46-yard line with 9:23 on the clock. The Tigers special teams malfunctioned in a bad way on punt return, with U/SA recovering a live ball on a high, shallow punt at the Browerville 36-yard line with 9:14 left.

Browerville was then called for pass interference on the first play from scrimmage, which gave the Patriots first down at the Tigers' 21. Browerville's run defense stood strong and forced U/SA to fourth-and-eight. The Patriots then found the endzone when Lange connected with Primus for a 19-yard touchdown with 7:37 left to put them ahead 15-14. Lange was stopped a couple yards short on the two-point conversion sneak.

U/SA stopped Browerville on the next series at the Tigers' 47-yard line with 5:28 left in the third quarter. The Tigers punted, and U/SA set up their next series on their own 28-yard line. The Patriots got nowhere fast, and they later punted with 2:57 on the clock from their own 21-yard line.

Trailing 15-14, Browerville had very favorable field position after the punt and set up the chains on the U/SA 45-yard line. Now it was the Tigers turn to get nowhere, and they punted from midfield with 1:42 on the clock. U/SA's next series started on their own 24-yard line as the third quarter was coming to a close. The third quarter ended with U/SA having second-and-two at their own 47-yard line.

Browerville again got tough defensively on the running game, and U/SA was held to fourth-and-one in the fourth quarter's opening minute. The Patriots converted fourth down but were again held on the next three plays to nine yards. With 9:22 to go, the Patriots attempted to convert fourth-and-one on the Browerville 42 and moved the chains with a two-yard run up the gut by Primus.

Later on fourth-and-eight at the Browerville 27, Lange's pass was off the mark in the right flats to turn the ball over on downs with 5:36 left. The Tigers moved the chains on the first play to their 37-yard line. Two plays gained nothing, and the third-and-long pass was caught behind the line of scrimmage, where a U/SA tackler dropped the receiver for a huge nine-yard loss with 3:03 remaining. A high punt followed, and U/SA ran it back to their own 48-yard line with less than 3 minutes left. The Patriots were successful in the final moments with consecutive run plays to chew up the clock, and they took a knee twice to close out the narrow Sub-District III and Section 4A win.

Let's talk stats...U/SA's offense tallied 232 total yards with 126 coming on the ground. The Patriots were 0-for-9 on third downs, but they were an outstanding 5-for-6 on fourth down. Quarterback Max Lange was 9-for-16 with 106 passing yards and two touchdowns. Lange also ran for 101 yards on 24 carries. Nick Kedrowski carried for 25 yards and caught two passes for 18 yards. Jack Primus caught five passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns, and Aden Warga had two receptions for 12 yards. Browerville was held to 150 total yards, 2-for-10 on third downs with one lost fumble.
