Jaguar wrestlers at Paynesville Invitational (Updates)

I'll do what I can from Paynesville to get updates posted here as our No. 5-ranked B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team competes today starting at 2 p.m. **Update: the varsity action started at 2:25 p.m.

Wyatt Engen (138) won his first match by fall in just 36 seconds to get to 98 career wins. He entered the day 10-3 on the season.

Also winning in his first match was Brett DeRoo at 145 pounds by a 12-0 major decision.

At 152, Tanner Viessman won by fall (61 seconds) in his opener.

UPDATE at 5:30 p.m...the Jaguars hold a big lead over Pierz, with the Jaguars in first place right now with 126.6 points. The Pioneers have 87.5 points, while Milaca-Faith Christian is in third place with 87 points. In fourth is the host Bulldogs with 84 points.

At 170, Maximus Hanson won his opener by fall (0:29) before earning a tech fall (2:38) in the semifinals.

More to come.

**The wrestling finals will start at approximately 7:00 p.m.

Also happening tonight are two home varsity basketball games at our elementary school. The varsity girls tipped off at about 6:25 p.m.

On B-B-E's first possession, Abby Berge scored in the paint to get to 1,000 career points. Nice! She is B-B-E's 8th girls' basketball player in school history to meet this plateau in her career.

UPDATE in the girls' basketball game: at halftime, the Jaguars hold a 30-21 lead over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. The boys' varsity game won't tip off until about 8 p.m. if not later

**FINAL score: B-B-E girls' basketball 65, A-C-GC 48. It's now six in a row for our girls' basketball team!!

WRESTLING update while the finals round has gotten underway: in the team standings, the Jaguars have 184 team points compared to Paynesville Area's 142.5 points. M-FC sits in third with 129 points, and Wabasso is in fourth with 110 points.

**UPDATE at the boys' basketball game: with 9:30 left, the Jaguars hold a 27-12 lead over Maple Lake. HALFTIME: B-B-E 58, Maple Lake 12.

I'm working on a new blog post with video. It should be up by midnight. It has been a crazy day. Non-stop movement since 1:30 p.m., and I am not exaggerating. I also have to fix my girls' basketball story that's on my newspaper website, as yet again I have left part of it out, in this case missing part of the box score from the Minnewaska game. It really is amazing the mistakes you can make when you try and do too many things.
