Series sweep vs. EVW Eagles (VIDEO)
For the fourth straight season, the B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team earned a series sweep against the Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles. In contrast to their first meeting when they earned a blowout win, this time the Jaguars had to work for it down the stretch. The Eagles kept within striking distance for most of the second half and trailed 53-49 with 4:15 to go. A big banked three by Macey Roering with 3:02 to go gave the Jaguars a 56-49 lead, and they expanded that lead across the last 2 minutes of the game.
Final: B-B-E 69, EV-W 56. Solid 42-percent field goal shooting in the second half was key to the win. Also important was 20 made free throws on 29 attempts. Brooklyn Fischer led the way with 19 points, and also in double figures were Bree Thieschafer (16 points) and Kacey Fischer (12 points).
Here's a video featuring the opening minutes of the game tonight:
B-B-E built a 28-21 halftime lead, but the Eagles came out strong from the locker room and trailed 30-28 and later 35-33 through the first 5 minutes of the second half. The Jaguars then scored 6 unanswered points to go up 41-33. The teams mostly traded baskets across the next stretch of the game before the Jaguars pulled away in the closing 3 minutes.
This was a great win for the Jaguars against an Eagles team that had won three of their past four contests. EV-W broke a four-game skid with a 55-46 border battle win over Paynesville Area on January 26. They faced Osakis at the Target Center the next day and earned a 47-46 win. After losing 57-40 at Royalton on January 30, the Eagles won another border battle by a 45-43 margin at Kimball Area last Frida
Next: the Jaguars (12-10, 7-5) host Prairie Conference leader Osakis (9-10, 7-0) in a non-conference game tomorrow. The Silverstreaks have clinched a share of the Prairie title, as the second-place team (Upsala) has a 5-3 conference record.
Also tomorrow...the boys' basketball team travels to Holdingford.
