Jaguars Girls Basketball Falls to 2nd-ranked Albany Huskies 82-52 in Sub-Section 19-AA Semi-Finals, End Record-Breaking Season 18-10
In this photo, Jaguars player Heidi Lensing is swarmed in the paint while battling for a rebound in tonight's game. The pressure was that intense for most of the first half.
The Jaguars trailed 40-14 at halftime. Yes, the Huskies are that good. They will take a 25-2 record into the sub-section championship game this Saturday night at St.John's University to face the winner of the Sauk Centre/New London-Spicer game. That game will be tonight and starts in about 5 minutes from now.
The Jaguars finish the 2007-2008 campaign with a final record of 18-10. This breaks the record of the previous second-best team at B-B-E in 1992-1993 that went 17-8. Interestingly, that team also was soundly beaten in their playoff exit, a Region 5A loss by a 69-34 score to New London-Spicer, who went on to finish 2nd in the Class A state tournament (2-class system).
I'll add more from this game and the A-C-GC game over the weekend.
In the 2nd game tonight at St.John's, New London-Spicer squeezed out a narrow 42-37 victory over Sauk Centre. NL-S advances to the sub-section championship game in girls basketball for the first time since 2005, when they lost to Rockford in the Section 5AA championship. They have had three straight semi-final exits (1-1 playoff record each year) until now. I'll add a bit more on that note over the weekend as well.
Other scores in girls basketball playoff action:
HL-W-W 56, Pierz 54
Eden Valley-Watkins 66, Litchfield 45
Minnewaska Area 46, Benson 32 ('Waska makes the Sub-Section 6AA-West finals)
West Central Area 52, Osakis 45 (WCA is 'Waska's opponent in the 6AA-West finals... both teams are 20-6 overall)
