River Lakes Stars Boys Hockey Advances in Section 8AA Playoffs with 3-2 Win Over Becker-Big Lake Today

The Stars hosted B-BL at the Paynesville Ice Arena on Saturday at 5:00. Their 3-2 win vaults them to the 8AA quarterfinal round, facing top-seeded Roseau next Tuesday at 7:00. That game will be held at Roseau, on the Canada-U.S. border. Becker-Big Lake finishes their season with a 5-20 record.

In boys baskeball action today, Pierz knocked off Braham on the Bombers' homecourt today 68-59. The Pioneers ended two streaks in the process, Braham's run of 55 straight home wins and their 15-game winning streak this season. Pierz moves to 12-9 overall while Braham is 17-4.

In wrestling playoff action today, Canby knocked off top-seeded Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in the Section 3A Championship match at the Dawson-Boyd High School. The final score was not close, 39-18. It reverses an earlier Lancers' loss to K-M-S in the Camden Conference Championship. It's a tough loss for K-M-S, as winning a state tournament trip far outweighs a conference trophy in the trophy case.

Canby takes a 23-2 record into "State", while K-M-S finishes their best wrestling season since 1988 with an 18-1 final record.

Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (24-4) easily handled Paynesville Area (18-8) in the Section 5A Championship dual on Friday night, 43-19 final score. Hats off to the Falcons for their fourth straight team trip to the State Tournament. They will open with Frazee (13-5) in the Class A State Quarterfinals.

The Jaguars Danceline team will not perform at Tuesday's home girls basketball game. They will be performing on Friday at the Osakis boys basketball game at the high school.
