This week in Jaguars sports - Radio coverage on Tuesday night via Smooth Magic 107
The Jaguars wrestling team will host two events this week, Tuesday and Thursday nights. On Tuesday, neighboring Melrose Area comes to town for a dual meet that begins at 7:30. On Thursday, Parkers Prairie, Sauk Centre, and Paynesville Area all visit the high school gymnasium for a big quadrangular. This Quad marks the end of the regular season, as playoffs begin this month.
Sauk Centre and Paynesville area both Section 5A teams, so the results of Thursday night's matches will have big implications for the upcoming section tournament, both team and individual.
I have Parkers Prairie's record at 3-6, and they are in Section 6A. I feel that Melrose, Parkers and Sauk Centre are winnable matches for the Jaguars.
The Jaguars girls basketball team has a busy three-game week. Two of the three are Central Minnesota Conference games. On Tuesday, Maple Lake (4-15 overall) comes to town for a game that the Jaguars must win, as they need to get another big winning streak going before playoffs begin in March. Last Thursday's win over Holdingford was a good start.
On Thursday, the Jaguars travel to state-ranked Hancock (12-1) for a non-conference game. It will be Parents' Night for the Owls.
On Friday, the Jaguars host Rockford (5-14 overall) for a CMC matchup. The Rockets
put a big feather in their hat last Thursday, when they beat Pierz 51-41 in Rockford.
The Jaguars are still chasing Eden Valley-Watkins in the CMC, along with Howard Lake-Waverly-Winted, who is tied with the Jaguars for 2nd place at 6-2.
The Jaguars boys basketball team also has a very busy three-game week, all on the road. On Tuesday, they travel to Osakis to face a 7-8 Silverstreaks team that is also in Section 6AA (west sub-section)...so this will be a big game as far as sub-section seeding goes. Even though this is the first time since the 1990s that Osakis sits around .500 this late in the season, they still are dangerous and will present a challenge to the Jaguars.
Tuesday night's game at Osakis for the Jaguars boys basketball team will be aired on Glenwood's "Smooth Magic 107" radio station, 107.1 on your FM dial. Fans can also tune in on the internet at Smooth Magic 107 at their official station website. As always, fans can expect great coverage by Smooth Magic's sports broadcaster, Dave McClurg.
On Thursday, the Jaguars are at Holdingford to face the 5-11 Huskers, whom they defeated by a big margin back in January. Holdingford is 2-5 in the CMC. They may be a different team than the one who fell 76-43 on January 20 to the Jaguars, as they beat Eden Valley-Watkins 58-39 two nights later in Holdingford.
On Friday, the Jaguars travel to Kimball to face a 6-8 Cubs team that is also 2-5 in the CMC.
