State wrestling championships (Updates)

Updates will follow here at the state championships, which start after 4 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center. Competing for the Jaguars will be Ryan Jensen (going for first), Walker Bents (going for first), Blaine Fischer (going for fifth), Maximus Hanson (going for fifth) and Ethan Spanier (going for fifth).

**Update: Blaine's match is on Mat 2, and it should get started at about 4:40 p.m.

We have two results from the finals! At 152, Blaine Fischer won by fall in the first period (52 seconds) to take fifth place. At 160, Maximus Hanson won a 12-5 decision to also take fifth place.

At 220, Ethan Spanier won by fall in the second period (3:51) to earn fifth-place hardware.

The girls' basketball team tips off at 6 p.m. tonight in Wadena for their semifinal playoff game. Braham and Ogilvie won their semifinal games this afternoon to set up the Sub-Section 5A-East championship.

The championship matches for the state wrestling tournament will probably be rolling before 7 p.m. Four mats will be in use for boys' matches in Class 1A, 2A and 3A, plus a fourth mat for the girls' wrestling championships. **Update: I expect Ryan's 126-pound final will start at 7:15 p.m.

STATE FINALS:
At 106: KMS eighth-grader Trey Gunderson won a state title over an HLWW wrestler. He won in the first period.
At 113: Jackson County Central sophomore Nolan Ambrose won a state title while finishing his season with an undefeated 52-0 record. He won by a 6-3 decision.

More updates and results in a new blog post.
