Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves
The No. 3-seeded Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves will be a formidable opponent with a strong inside and outside game as they take on our B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team on Tuesday night in the Sub-Section 5A-West championship game. Tip-off at Wadena-Deer Creek high school is at 7 p.m.
Here's a short clip from the first half on Saturday night in the late semifinal in Wadena:
*Watch here as WHA earns a buzzer-beating three-pointer just before halftime:
*Here's a clip from later in the second half as the shooting woes continued for Nevis:
The Nevis Tigers eventually cut it to 57-53 late in the game, but W-H-A preserved the lead to advance with a 66-58 win.
W-H-A won the rubber match on Saturday against state-ranked Nevis to avenge a 52-34 loss in their Northwoods Conference game on January 30 in their home gymnasium. Earlier in the season, W-H-A won at Nevis 53-50 in double overtime. In the second meeting, Nevis raced out to a 10-0 lead and eventually led 31-8 at halftime. Aubrey Morrison led the Wolves with 19 points, but the Tigers forced 18 turnovers out of W-H-A.
W-H-A could have some payback in mind. Two years ago in the sub-section semifinals in Belgrade during the COVID season, the Jaguars blew out the Wolves 80-28 before they won in overtime 56-46 against Pine River-Backus while eventually rolling all the way to the state title game.
Just for fun!!!! I found this super neat and too good not to share! Check out what I'm talking about here: https://lptv.org/growing-family-affair-at-nevis-vs-w-h-a-girls-basketball-game.
More to come.
