Home wrestling tonight
Tonight's home dual meet starts at 6:00 p.m. at the high school in Belgrade. Our No. 8-ranked B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team faces No. 5-ranked Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Browerville! The Wolves have been a big playoff rival in recent years, but in 2022 and again this year they are in Section 7A. LPGE/Browerville is 20-4 overall. They appear to be battling Royalton/Upsala for the No. 1 playoff seed. Those two teams do not meet in the regular season.
Updates to follow. The varsity match should get rolling by 6:30 p.m. There is also boys' basketball taking place in Eden Valley. That's where I will migrate to later in the evening. UPDATE: the varsity wrestling dual got started at 6:31 p.m. with Aiden Mueller taking the mat for the Jaguars at 106 pounds.
At 106 pounds: Aiden Mueller won a thrilling 7-5 overtime decision!
At 126 pounds: Louie Tensen is taking a 4-2 lead into the third period. His opponent scored a late reversal in the second period after trailing 4-0. Result: Tensen lost by fall in the final minute of the third period. LPGE/B now has a 15-3 lead on the scoreboard.
Action has been fast and furious here at the wrestling meet! Currently the Jaguars are clinging to a 19-15 lead through 145 pounds. The match was tied up at 15-15 after Ryan Jensen won by fall at 138 pounds in the third period. Then at 145, Brett DeRoo won a 9-1 major decision.
**Update: Maximus Hanson won by fall at 170 lb to give the Jaguars a 29 to 19 lead.
**At Eden Valley, the boys' basketball team trails 34 to 31 at halftime.
