Step III: playoff title No. 1 in hand! (VIDEOS)

*****An important update was added to the end of this blog post at lunch time on Wednesday.*****

The first playoff title trophy is headed to Jaguar Country after our B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team won the Sub-Section 5A-West championship tonight at Wadena-Deer Creek high school. Facing a talented Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves squad, the Jaguars played totally, completely dominating defense from start to finish while leading wire to wire in a 65-26 win. Since the 2013-2014 season, the Jaguars have now won 7 subsection championships! They have played in 10 straight subsection finals in that span. Wow!!!

Next: the Jaguars (24-4) play in the Section 5A championship game this Friday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at a location to be determined. Their opponent will be the Barnum Bombers (25-4). W-H-A finishes the season 21-8 overall.

*Here's a video featuring the last 30 seconds or so of the first half of tonight's game:

In tonight's win, the Jaguars shot 11-of-14 at the free throw line and shot 43 percent from the floor. Their transition game was ON in a huge way!!

**Here's a video from the second half tonight:

Tonight in the Sub-Section 5A-East championship, No. 2-seeded Barnum defeated No. 4-seeded Upsala 44-42 after they trailed 22-15 at halftime.

I saw that Sauk Centre ended Holdingford's girls' basketball season in a 66-50 win in the Section 6AA semifinals. That's all I have to post tonight. I'll get this blog post updated tomorrow morning with a complete area scoreboard.

In other news...I learned tonight that the home playoff game for our boys' basketball team will start at 5 p.m. this Thursday, March 10. Stay tuned for any changes, which I will post as soon as I hear anything. Right now I have to get back to publishing this week's newspaper.

*****Update: the site of the Section 5A finals is St. John's University. Please spread the word!!
