Thursday night playoff results - Maple Lake Irish fastpitch wins Section 5A championship for second straight "state" berth

Fastpitch:
Section 3A Championship: Wabasso 20, Murray County Central 5 (5 innings) - Uuf Da! The Rabbits will take a 24-1 record to the state tournament

*Barnum faced Maple Lake in the Section 5A championship and lost 14-0 to the state-ranked Irish. Maple Lake, the four-time defending Central Minnesota Conference champions, will take a 21-3-1 record to the state tournament. It marks the second year in a row that the Irish won Section 5A.

I read that Osakis defeated Ogilvie 13-3 on Tuesday, in the loser's bracket semi-final to begin the 5A Final Four. The Silverstreaks then fell to Barnum 11-7 to end their season with a final record of 18-3. I believe that is the school record at Osakis for most wins in a fastpitch season.

Baseball:
*Section 5A-West Championship: Browerville/Eagle Valley 8, Upsala/Swanville Area 6 - The 4th-seeded Broncos repeated as sub-section champions.
*Section 5A-East Championship: Royalton 10, Pillager 5
All four teams advance to the Section 5A tournament next week.

*Section 6A-South: Morris knocked West Central Area out of the playoffs today in a 10-3 game, and tonight they are taking on Wheaton/Herman-Norcross in the championship game.

After 4 1/2 innings, the #1-seeded Warriors (17-5) lead the #3-seeded Tigers 7-6.
After 5 1/2 innings, the Tigers pulled ahead 8-7. Morris ultimately lost to WHN 9-8 in regular innings. Both teams advance to the 6A Final Four round.

Hawley won 14-5 over Parkers Prairie in the Sub-Section 6A-North title game.

New London-Spicer was knocked out of the Section 6AA playoffs with a 10-0 loss to Staples-Motley in six innings.

More will be posted on Friday morning.
