Tonight's boys' basketball game at Pierz will be on the Train
Bill Dean, Don Leukam and I have made the trip to Pierz, where we'll all be giving ample coverage to the Jaguars boys' basketball team in their quest for a second straight perfect regular season.
With 6 minutes left in the B-squad game, the host Pioneers have a 14-8 lead. Neither team has scored for awhile now, with the defenses settling in and making for a good contest.
By the way, Patrick Rooney defeated TeJay Wojchowski of Badger/Greenbush/Middle River in the final consolation match of the state wrestling tournament. He is battling Collin Huckbody of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Nevis (32-3 coming into state) in the finals now for third place. I should get a result soon from that action at the Xcel Energy Center!
**B-squad update at Pierz...in the second half, the Jaguars have battled back after trailing 23-17 at the break. With 10 minutes left they hold a 28-27 lead. Adam Heinze dropped in a right-handed layup to put the Jaguars in front for the first time in the game 26-25 with 12 minutes left. Final: Pierz 41, B-B-E 36.
The varsity game will tip off right at 7:30pm tonight.
