Outstanding on day one

In their first-ever appearance at the Big Bear tournament, the B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team is sitting in fifth place out of 39 teams after the first day of action. That is awesome! They currently trail Thief River Falls (first place, 118.5 points), Hutchinson, Park Rapids and Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie.

B-B-E is one of the smallest schools in this tournament, which is hosted by Cass Lake-Bena high school.

These Jaguars went 3-0 on the first day to help push the team so high in the standings: Canon Swanson, Tyler Bents, Isaiah Gilbert and Adam Jaeger. Stay tuned on Saturday for more updates!

And look for a full story on the tournament in the Dec. 22 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.

Tuesday night results

The B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team beat visiting Pierz 56-44 last night. They host Maple Lake on Thursday night.

At Hancock the B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team lost 48-45 in a nailbiter.

The B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team went 1-1 at the Albany triangular, suffering their first loss of the season by a 33-30 score to Becker.

I did not get everything published that I wanted to in this week's Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper. Even though it was a whopping 14 pages, I ran out of room to wrote about the boys' basketball game and wrestling results from Albany.

Not to mention that I ran out of time. The newspaper has been growing by leaps and bounds in the past two months or so. It's consumed all my spare energy.

It's been a rush though! We will get to 1,000 subscribers by this weekend!!!!

Santa Claus and more in Brooten!

Today's the big day in Brooten! All the activities' details were on page 13 of this week's Bonanza Valley Voice and on page 10 of last week's Bonanza Valley Voice.

I was just in Elrosa and saw over 40 kids get some time with Santa Claus at the parish center. The Elrosa Commercial Club and Elrosa Baseball Club did a fantastic job organizing activities and treats for everyone.

What a great day! IN SPITE of the bitter cold, the Christmas spirit is alive and well across the Bonanza Valley!

Two wins!

Canon Swanson battling for the Jaguars at 126 pounds, where he got a pin against Paynesville.

The B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team won two matches in home conference action tonight! They started out by thrashing the Kimball Area Cubs with a final score of 50-16. Paynesville Area also defeated Kimball when those two teams met in the second dual of the night. In the third dual, the Jaguars took on the Bulldogs in a classic border battle match that was not decided until the 195-pound match was complete. Final score: B-B-E 38, Paynesville Area 33.

The Jaguars are now 3-0 overall and in Central Minnesota Conference duals for the season. Their next action is another triangular next Tuesday, December 13 at Albany. The other team involved is Becker. Action begins for B-B-E with the Jaguars taking on Becker at 6:15 p.m.

Ryan Illies (50) pressures this shot by Ortonville in the first half.

In another home contest tonight, the B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team lost 68-54 to sub-section rival Ortonville. The Jaguars fared far better offensively tonight against Ortonville than they did in the season opener against Osakis. The improvement was very noticeable and noteworthy. Derek Wiener led the Jaguars with 19 points.

The Trojans, who led 40-27 at halftime, improved to 3-0 with the win. They are 2-0 against very solid Camden Conference competition after beating Lac qui Parle Valley 54-43 the night before their trip to Brooten. Ortonville competes in the Pheasant Conference in basketball and figures to be a factor in that race this season along with Hancock.

Speaking of Hancock, the Owls will be the next opponent for the Jaguars boys' basketball team. Next Tuesday B-B-E travels to Hancock for a non-conference contest.

Tonight's boys' basketball game was aired on 106.5 FM The Train.

Wrestling has a great night

The B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team took first place tonight! They beat second-place Quad County by 40 points with a team score of 180. Five Jaguars took first place, which created the wide gap between them and Quad County. Very cool! B-B-E's Isaiah Gilbert was the tournament M.V.P. and the champion in the 145-pound division with two pins and a 9-7 win by decision in the semifinals.

Next is a dual at Holdingford on Tuesday night to start the Central Minnesota Conference schedule. The Huskers took third place with 120 points at tonight's tournament.

Here's video from Jonah Voss's quarterfinal match. He won this match by a 12-4 major decision and finished in second place in the 160-pound division.

More will be posted late Saturday night, including photos. I had a very busy Saturday, and in my down time - it was family time!
