Elrosa's amateur baseball team was all smiles after a great day at the office today, defeating Farming 10-0 in seven innings of work.

The Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team won in shutout fashion over Farming in a Stearns County League game today, winning 10-0 in shortened innings on the home diamond.

The Saints (7-1 SCL-North) led 4-0 after three innings and then tacked on four runs in the bottom of the sixth to salt it away. Dustin Breitbach struck out the side in the top of the 7th to end the game early.

They now prepare for a home game against league rival Meire Grove next Sunday (June 13) at 1:30pm at Saints Field.

A great day on the links results in three Jaguars' golfers advancing to the Class A State Tournament - the most ever for B-B-E in one season

Corey Tonn in action at the Sub-Section 5A-North meet on May 28; he placed 5th at the Section 5A meet today.

Senior Corey Tonn, junior Amy Knutson, and seventh grader Peyton Miller all advanced from the Section 5A meet today to the Class A state golf tournament.

Tonn is the first Jaguars' boys golfer to advance to state since 2005, when then-senior Steven Hurst went in the two-class format and finished 7th individually.

Also, for the third straight year, the Jaguars' girls golf team will be represented at the state tournament. In 2008, Megan Herickhoff and Whitney Bertram both competed at state; in 2009, Bertram went for the second time.

  • Top finishers for the Jaguars at the Section 5A tournament in Benson:
Corey Tonn carded an 80, good for 5th overall on the boys' side
Peyton Miller carded a 91, good for 4th overall on the girls' side
Amy Knutson carded a 95 - it avenges the "narrow miss" she endured as a freshmen, when she missed out on going to state by one stroke at the Section 5A meet in '08.

The 2010 Class A state golf tournament will take place at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, MN, on Wednesday-Thursday, June 16-17. On both days, tee-off times are at 7:30am.

Jaguars' boys and girls golfers tee off this morning at the Benson Golf Course in the Section 5A meet

The Jaguars' boys golf team has a good chance at advancing to the state tournament, which would be a first in B-B-E school history.

Meanwhile, two members of the Jaguars' girls golf team are competing at sections as well. Junior Amy Knutson and seventh grader Peyton Miller will compete for a chance to go to state. Knutson is in her second trip to the Section 5A tournament, as she went as a freshmen with the Jaguars girls golf team, who were sub-section runners-up in 2008.

By 4:00pm I will post who is advancing to the state tournament.

Section 5A girls' fastpitch championship:
Barnum 3, Osakis 0

Section 6A girls' fastpitch championship:
Menahga 1, Parkers Prairie 0 (Panthers narrowly miss out on advancing to 3 state tournaments this year - they went in volleyball last fall and took 3rd in basketball in March)...making it tougher was the fact that the Panthers swept Menahga on April 27 in a Park Region double-header. Menahga takes an 11-14 overall record into the state tournament next week

Section 6AA girls' fastpitch championship:
Rocori 5, St. Cloud Cathedral 4 (10 innings)
