That's a wrap

...a wrap on the academic year at least. (Two varsity sports are still in play with upcoming state-tournament events.)

The 2012-13 year came to a close at B-B-E schools today.

Below, students give second-grade teacher Ms. Orton a final hug at the end of the school day...

And the traditional "wave good-bye" from the staff to students...

What an awesome time to honor the students of the B-B-E elementary school!

Special education teacher Mrs. Weller will be missed by the students and staff of B-B-E.

There were a few teary-eyed moments this morning, especially when Mr. Gossen talked about the teachers retiring from the staff at B-B-E.

So goes the circle of life.

Taylor Gregory is state-bound! Plus two girls' golfers!

Taylor Gregory shown in action at the Sub-Section 5A-20 meet on May 21.

Junior Taylor Gregory earned a trip to the Class A state track and field meet after a superb performance at the Section 5A meet earlier today at St. John's University. Gregory jumped a 5-03 (matching her career best) to earn a trip from sections to state.

She's the first B-B-E trackster to make it to state since 2009, when Heidi Lensing made a trip to the big meet. Lensing competed in the high jump and long jump that spring.

The boys' 4x100 and girls' 4x200 relay teams from B-B-E both earned season best times.

Coach Wiechmann reported that Jordan Gruendemann and Peyton Miller both earned repeat trips to the Class A state golf meet after today's Section 5A meet in Benson. As a team, the Jaguars girls' golf team finished third in Section 5A with a score only three strokes (408 to 405) off of second place. Ortonville won the meet, with Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart taking second and West Central Area placing fourth.

A great day for the Jaguars!

Jordan Steffensen started and pitched the first game, while Kendall Kampsen was the starter in the night cap.

Gutsy athletes! All Jaguar boys' and girls' golf team members advance to Section 5A

The Jaguars athletes and coaches gather outside the Minnewaska Golf Course club house, with rain still coming down, after they all punched tickets to next week's Section 5A meet in Benson.

For the second year in a row, all Jaguars boys' and girls' golf team members advanced from the Sub-Section 5A-North meet to sections. They both advanced to sections in 2008 as well.

What a day! It was extremely windy, cold and very wet. I was lucky enough to use a golf cart to hop around the course and snap pictures. The kids battled the elements and managed to shine when it really counted. The B-B-E community should be incredibly proud.

This is the first year ever that the Jaguars girls' golf team has won the sub-section championship.

On the boys' side, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley won the team title. They won a tie-breaker over the Jaguars, who ended up tied on the team score for first place when the results were all added up.

Jaguar girls' golf team: Sub-Section 5A-North champions!

Peyton Miller, Jayden Gossen and Coach Goodwin wait as the final girls' golf scores were turned in.

With their top two golfers taking first and second place, respectively, at today's Sub-Section 5A-North meet in Glenwood, the Jaguars girls' golf team earned the team championship on a cold, windy day.

Senior Jordan Gruendemann fired an 89 to win the individual sub-section championship. Sophomore Peyton Miller earned second place with a 91.

As a team, the Jaguars advance to the Section 5A meet next Wednesday in Benson.

**Update at 6:00pm...and what do you know, the Jaguars boys' golf team is advancing to the Section 5A meet as well! They tied for first place in the team standings today at sub-sections but lost the title on a tiebreaker.

More to follow.

Good grief! Jaguar baseball sweeps Maple Lake

Defending Central Minnesota Conference baseball champion Maple Lake came to Elrosa only one game out of first place in the conference on Monday night, but when the dust settled they went home completely out of contention for a share the 2013 title.

Why?

Enter the B-B-E Jaguars, who put together the finest evening of baseball this year and proceeded to pick up 3-1 and 7-5 victories over the Irish. They now have four wins in a row, the first such winning streak since late in the 2011 season.

The Jaguars, just one game under .500 as playoffs are set to begin, take an 8-10 overall record (5-9 CMC) into the Sub-Section 5A-West tournament. See below for playoff info.

Great job, Jaguars!

Jaguars suffer tought loss in game one at Pierz

The Jaguars baseball team lost 8-6 in the first game tonight at Pierz in a Central Minnesota Conference double-header. The Pioneers took a 6-0 lead in the first inning before the Jaguars scored three times in the third and three more in the fifth to tie it at 6-6.

In game two, the Pioneers hold an 11-1 lead after four and a half innings. Final: Pierz 11, B-B-E 1 in five innings.

Prairie View Community Golf Course was hosting a CMC boys' golf meet today. It was a blustery to say the least. Many drives got hung up in the air and sent sideways or even backwards.
