Volleyball team takes over first place alone (VIDEOS!*)

After a dominant performance in the opening set tonight, the B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team dispatched a gritty Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons squad in a 3-0 sweep. During the third set, senior setter/hitter Kamie Fischer surpassed 2,000 career set assists. On a pass from Laken Anderson, Fischer set to the left side for Macey Roering. Roering completed the 2,000-career-set-assist sequence with a kill that gave the Jaguars a 15-14 lead.

Coming into the match, Fischer needed 29 set assists to get to the 2,000 mark.

Both teams entered the match with 2-0 records in the Central Minnesota Conference. The win puts the Jaguars in first place alone in the CMC and evens their overall record at 6-6. A-C-GC falls to 7-9 overall. Next: the Jaguars host a border battle next Monday, Sept. 28 against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

Backing up to earlier in the match...which lasted about 1 hour and 5 minutes...

After getting handled easily in game one, the Falcons came out with a much better block in game two and put up a fight. The Jaguars had leads of 10-8 and 13-11 in the middle of game two. Two straight A-C-GC points to make it 18-16 pushed B-B-E into a timeout. Late kills by Kamie Fischer and two by Laken Anderson brought game point. Fischer ended the set with an ace serve and a 25-20 win.

Game three was a back-and-forth affair after the Jaguars had an initial 4-1 lead. The Falcons cut it to 6-5 and then took an 8-7 lead on two straight Kenlie Blom ace serves. Jaylee Jensen's ace block put the Jaguars ahead 9-8. On the left side, Kelsie Blom had two straight kills that tied the score at 11-11. Teagan Dingmann's kill off of a block put the Jaguars ahead 13-12. A Falcons hitting error tied the set at 14-14, and Roering's kill on Fischer's 2,000th set assist made it a 15-14 lead. The Jaguars repelled a tough fight down the stretch, and Anderson hit back-to-back kills to finish the match with B-B-E winning 25-21.

For the night, the Jaguars had 21.7 percent hitting, which helped overcome a tough match at the service line, where they had 10 errors against just 4 ace serves. Laken Anderson led the Jaguars team with 10 kills, and Macey Roering throttled over 8 kills. The Falcons were led by 7 kills from senior Kenlie Blom, who also added 3 ace serves and 13 digs.

After the match, Kamie Fischer was part of countless pictures with teammates, friends and family. The team and coaches gathered with her for a photo before the rest of the pictures were taken. I had the distinct honor of being able to interview her after the match. I attempted to think of different questions than I've had in the past for volleyball interviews.

In a big match to the west, Minnewaska Area won 3-2 against Sauk Centre. The Mainstreeters won game four 25-22 to force the tiebreaking set, but the Lakers overpowered them in a 15-5 win to remain undefeated.

GAME NIGHT! Border Battle and Pep Band in the house!

No time to rest...

The B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team is hosting Paynesville Area tonight in a border battle and their second straight contest facing the Bulldogs. The two teams met on Monday night in Paynesville, and the Bulldogs overcame a 24-23 halftime deficit to win 60-50 and stay on top of the Central Minnesota Conference.

I have to get my electronics and my trumpet over to the school now...the B-B-E Pep Band begins performing at 6:30 p.m.! Also! The game is being aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. Brady's coverage is also streamed at their website: https://www.kmgk1071.com.

The wrestling team will be back in action tomorrow night in a triangular at Holdingford.

HALFTIME: Paynesville Area 43, B-B-E 25. The Bulldogs used 7 threes to pull away from the Jaguars late in the half.

Girls' basketball is on the radio; Jaguars hammer Cardinals

Smooth Magic 107 FM has the call tonight with Brady Erdmann covering the B-B-E Jaguars girls' basketball team's game at Upsala. They broadcast on 107.1 FM on the radio and online at their website: https://www.kmgk1071.com. The Cardinals are 0-1 on the season after losing at home to their neighbors to the north, Little Falls, by a 70-33 score on Tuesday.

At halftime, the Jaguars are ahead 36-22. Tiffany Dingmann is leading the Jaguars with 10 points, and Mya Worms has scored 9 as the next top scorer.

B-B-E pounded on Upsala in the opening minutes of the second half. The Cardinals scored the first bucket after halftime, but the Jaguars scored 8 straight to go up 44-24. It was all B-B-E from that point on.

Final score: B-B-E 78, Upsala 43. The Jaguars (2-0) had 5 players in double figures! Other teams are going to have to pick their poison, because the Jaguars have multiple shooters on the floor at any given time. Excellent three-point shooting was a key to the win. The Jaguars connected on 8 out of 17 shots beyond the arc. Overall, they shot 43 percent on field goals while going 11-for-19 at the free throw line.

Next: the Jaguars host Brandon-Evansville on Saturday with games going all afternoon at the high school. It is a boys/girls doubleheader with the Chargers as the team also has their Hoops For Hope cancer awareness fundraiser.

The River Lakes Stars girls' hockey team has had a strong start to the 2025-2026 season. They currently hold a 4-3-1 overall record after an exciting 3-2 win at Sartell/Sauk Rapids-Rice on Tuesday in Sartell. This also raised their Central Lakes Conference record to 2-0. Next is a road game at Cloquet on Saturday.

Border battle! TONIGHT! On the radio (UPDATES!)

Tonight's border battle and season opener for the B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood (107.1 FM). The opponent is undefeated (4-0) New London-Spicer, who is the defending Section 3AA champions. Smooth Magic 107 streams online at https://www.kmgk1071.com.

The JV Jaguars won three straight sets in a preliminary match.

Varsity updates...
In game one, the Jaguars came back from an early 8-6 deficit to take a 16-10 lead. Final: B-B-E 25, NL-S 18. Game two is starting at 19:25.

In game two, the Jaguars fell back 5-3 before forcing a tie at 8-8. NL-S then forged a 14-9 lead to force B-B-E into their first timeout. Late in the set, the Wildcats led 19-14 before B-B-E stormed back to force ties at 22-22 and 24-24. Final: NL-S 26, B-B-E 24. Game three is starting at 19:52.

GAME DAY! Again, back west in Stevens County (UPDATES!! JAGUARS STAY ALIVE!)

Today's Section 6A elimination bracket playoff game in Morris will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. They stream online at https://www.kmgk1071.com. First pitch is at 2:30 p.m. at Rambow Field in Morris.

The B-B-E Jaguars baseball team is facing Border West for the second time in this current playoff run. The Buccaneers advanced with a 9-7 win against Brandon-Evansville yesterday. Their approximate overall record is 14-6, according to what I know. B-B-E, meanwhile, is 16-7 overall.

The stakes are HUGE, of course, as the Jaguars need at least 2 more wins to earn a spot in the Section 6A championship series. There is no need to think ahead, however, as they must beat Border West today to stay alive.

GAME updates against Border West...
The Jaguars are the visiting team on the scoreboard. Luke Illies is B-B-E's starting pitcher.

After one complete inning: the score is zero to zero.
After 2 1/2 innings: B-B-E 1, Border West 0; Brett DeRoo earned a one-out walk and later scored the game's first run.
After four complete innings: B-B-E 1, Border West 1.
After five complete innings: Border West 4, B-B-E 1.
After the top of the sixth: Border West 4, B-B-E 1; the Jaguars were robbed on a ground ball play at first base. Three men stranded. That hurts in a bad way.

UPDATE!! the Buccaneers are running out of pitchers, as we are in the top of the 7th inning, and the Jaguars have taken a 7-4 lead!!!! Woo Hoo! I am hitting the road to Sauk Centre now with my daughter and the 11-U fastpitch softball team for their 2025 season opener.

FINAL SCORE: B-B-E 14, Border West 4. The season continues! The Jaguars improve to 17-7 overall with the huge playoff win, and they have to win yet another elimination game today to play tomorrow. Next: at about 5:30 p.m. today, the Jaguars face Upsala/Swanville Area in another playoff rematch. The U/SA Patriots lost 9-1 to Parkers Prairie this afternoon in Morris in a game played at Chizek Field. That game was the true Section 6A semifinal and also the winner's bracket final; it featured the top seeds from each subsection.

The Jaguars owe the Patriots, as B-B-E did not play particularly well last Thursday in their 3-1 loss to the Patriots. Just 2 hits were recorded by the Jaguars in that tough loss. This is time for REDEMPTION!

For now, I'll post updates on this blog post. I haven't decided when I'll get a new blog post added here. The upcoming playoff game will be played at Chizek Field in Morris. I'm checking on what time it should begin. My guess is about 5:30 p.m. Upsala/Swanville Area is 16-6 overall after today's loss to the Panthers.

UPDATE: at 5:26 p.m., Brady's pre-game coverage started for the U/SA vs. B-B-E baseball game. The game started at 5:28 p.m., and the Jaguars are the visitors on the scoreboard and will bat first. Ethan Mueller is B-B-E's starting pitcher.

Fastpitch hits the road today, baseball hosts EV-W

The Central Minnesota Conference game at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City high school later today will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. The B-B-E Jaguars fastpitch team takes on A-C-GC with first pitch at 4:45 p.m. The pregame show will begin at about 4:30 p.m. The Jaguars have fallen to 7-7 overall and need to come out firing today to shake their current five-game losing streak. The Jaguars have been outscored 65-11 in their last 5 games. It is time to right the ship! Losing is not an option!

The Falcons, a Section 4A team, are 4-11 overall with a 3-8 CMC record. In their latest action, they earned a CMC split at Maple Lake last Thursday with a 15-7 loss in game one and then a 9-8 win in game two.

In the latest Minnesota-Scores QRF rankings, the Jaguars have fallen to No. 44 in Class 1A. They are currently the No. 9-ranked team in Section 3A out of 16 total teams. In Sub-Section 3A-North, they are in the No. 3 spot behind Lac qui Parle Valley (QRF No. 18) and Yellow Medicine East (QRF No. 30).

At home in Elrosa, the B-B-E Jaguars baseball team hosts Eden Valley-Watkins in another game with big conference implications. The Jaguars need to win in order to keep their Central Minnesota Conference title hopes alive. First pitch from Saints Field is at 4 p.m.

In the latest Minnesota-Scores QRF rankings, the Jaguars have climbed to No. 6 in Class 1A, which also puts them in the top spot in Sub-Section 6A-South. Parkers Prairie (16-3 overall) stands at No. 3 in Class 1A and is the leader in Sub-Section 6A-North.

The first 'SHIP! Volleyball Jaguars set to battle Knights in Fergus Falls (VIDEO, UPDATES)

We have REVENGE on our minds! At top of mind specifically is a rematch with the West Central Area Knights for our Central Minnesota Conference champion B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team, as the two teams will collide at Fergus Falls high school tonight with a 6 p.m. start time. They are the top seeds in the sub-section. Our Jaguars have a 27-3 overall record, while the Knights enter 25-4. This one is going to be an epic battle!!! The Jaguars need to block well and serve well in order to have a chance at advancing!

In game one...the Jaguars jumped out to a nice 10-6 lead, but now the Knights hold a 14-11 advantage after they found success at the service line.

Game one final: WCA 25, B-B-E 17. The Jaguars looked rough, and it was very tough to watch, as the Knights began picking up their back row play and challenging the Jaguar attack. Trailing 14-11, Coach Borgerding called a timeout. They got no closer than 3 points, trailing 16-13, before the Knights had a key 5-0 run to take control and win the opening set.

Baseball home opener on the radio

The baseball game at Regal is on 107.1 FM of Glenwood...Brady is also on the web at https://www.kmgk1071.com. The B-B-E Jaguars baseball team is hosting Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

The Jaguars left one stranded in the bottom of the second inning, but they scored one run on one hit to take a 2-0 lead.

KMGK Smooth Magic 107 sports banquet (VIDEO)

The 12th annual Smooth Magic 107 FM sports banquet is being held tonight at the beautiful Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood. Being honored from B-B-E are Tiyana Schwinghammer, Brady Schwinghammer, Ava Mueller, Abby Berge, Kaden Pieper and Ethan Spanier.

Student-athletes were in attendance from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Benson, Hancock, West Central Area and Minnewaska Area schools.

Coming tomorrow...
On Thursday, the fastpitch team plays Royalton in a Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader at the River's Edge complex in Waite Park at 12 p.m. Also on Thursday, the baseball team plays Royalton in a CMC doubleheader; their games will be played at St. Cloud's Dick Putz Field starting at 4:30 p.m.

On Thursday...afternoon update... I'm heading to the Little Crow Invitational! It's track meet time. I almost made a trip to St. Cloud to grab pictures at both fastpitch and baseball, but it was just too costly of a trip to take. Hopefully next Tuesday's home fastpitch game takes place against Eden Valley-Watkins. Also, the baseball team is set to host Kimball on Saturday...I haven't heard where that will take place, but it is possible it will be in Elrosa. We REALLY need the weather to cooperate for the next 4 to 5 weeks!

In other news...I got some sweet corn and spinach and peas planted in the garden today and yesterday. Time to get the gardening up to speed!

TONIGHT! GAME NIGHT! (VIDEO)

Tonight is game night TIMES TWO in a unique way...we have a girls/boys double header coming on our home court at B-B-E high school in Belgrade. Both varsity games will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. The varsity girls' basketball game starts at 6 p.m. against Sauk Centre. The boys' basketball game will follow at about 7:30 p.m. **The Train 106.5 is also here!!

Preliminary game start at 4:30 p.m. at both the high school and elementary.  

**Halftime: the girls' basketball team has a 32 to 25 lead after they trailed 7 to 0 out of the gate.

**In the boys basketball game with 4:19 to go, the game is tied 20 all. **Halftime: this game is tied 28 to 28.

GAME DAY - again!

This is life in the fast lane right now in Jaguar Country.

The B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team hosts Wheaton/Herman-Norcross with first serve at 7 p.m. from the elementary school in Brooten. Tonight's match features the No. 1 seed in Sub-Section 6A-South against the No. 8-seeded Warriors. The match will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. (Thanks, Brady!)

W/HN finished in sixth place in the Little Eight Conference after they won the last-ever Pheasant Conference title in 2021.

MATCH UPDATES:
In game one, the score is tied 5-5 in the early stages after the Warriors held a 4-2 lead. *FINAL: B-B-E 25, W/HN 20.

In game two, the Jaguars came out with a better start in the early stages and built an initial 14-10 lead. After the lead expanded to 17-11, W/HN called a timeout. The Jaguars kept the pressure on and won by a score of 25-16.

Game three is not going that well, and the Warriors have built a 13-9 lead. More to come in a new blog post.

It's GAME night again!

Tonight on the home gridiron, the B-B-E Jaguars football team looks for their second win of the young season as they host Benson. Both teams are 1-1 and want to keep climbing up the Section 4A standings.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. in Belgrade. The game will be aired on Smmooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. More to come, including updates during the game.

Baseball playoffs on the radio today (VIDEO, *UPDATES)

Today's playoff game at 2:30 p.m. at Chizek Field in Morris will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. (Thanks, Brady!) Our No. 3-seeded B-B-E Jaguars baseball team takes on No. 2-seeded Upsala/Swanville Area in the first round of the double-elimination portion of the Section 6A tournament. If they win, the Jaguars play again in the same location at 4:30 p.m. against No. 1-seeded Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

Game update: against Upsala/Swanville Area, the Jaguars are sitting in a 1-1 tie after three innings are complete. B-B-E took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but the Patriots tied it in the bottom of the frame. B-B-E's Ashton Dingmann is our starter.

**UPDATE! the Jaguars scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to forge a 3-1 lead over U/SA.

**UPDATE through six innings: the lead remains at 3-1 for B-B-E after six innings are in the book. B-B-E's defense had a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the sixth.

The second game today should start at about 4:45 p.m. in Morris, and it won't begin before 4:30. The Jaguars would play K-M-S if they beat U/SA. If the Jaguars lose, they get a bye to advance in the elimination bracket. This is due to a forfeit by Border West.

Sports banquet day

Today we have the Smooth Magic 107 FM sports banquet at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood. The Glenwood radio station has sponsored this banquet for many years, although it was unable to be held in 2020. B-B-E has a list of Jaguar student-athletes who are being honored. That was published in the April 28 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.

The B-B-E Jaguars baseball team had just defeated Holdingford in two games of a Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader. They travel to Dick Putz Field tomorrow in St. Cloud to face Royalton in another CMC doubleheader.

Season opener (radio coverage)

Today is the season opener for the B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team. The Jaguars host neighboring rival Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg in a border battle. The game will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood, both on the radio (107.1 FM) and online via their website. Pre-game coverage will begin at approximately 7 p.m.

The JV Jaguars won by an approximate score of 59 to 44, which was the score going into the final minute of the game.

Varsity update: with 13 minutes left in the first half, the Jaguars have a 7-5 lead.

It will be a great Homecoming match! The Bulldogs trail the Jaguars in the Central Minnesota Conference standings by one match. There's a lot of volleyball left to play this season, but the Jaguars have their eyes set on staying undefeated in the CMC.

**We are in game four, and the Jaguars have a two-to-one advantage in sets. Game four is tied at 18-all!!! 

Paynesville won game four 25-22.

Today's the big day with the B-B-E Jaguars football team season opener! Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at the B-B-E high school sports complex.

Friday night: Elrosa hosts Sobieski

On Friday night, July 2, the Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team hosts Sobieski in an exhibition game. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m.

It's game day! (TIME CHANGE) Updates

Playoffs continue today! The B-B-E Jaguars baseball team (11-11) takes on Browerville in an elimination game at 1:15 p.m. at New York Mills. The Tigers are 7-14 overall after eliminating Parkers Prairie from the Section 6A tournament with a 6-5 win in eight innings last Thursday at Bluffton.

*Update: if the Jaguars win, their second game today will be at 5:15 p.m. today in New York Mills.

GAME UPDATES
At New York Mills, the Jaguars have a 2-0 lead through three-and-a-half innings over Browerville. They've scored both runs on Tiger errors. Gavin Kampsen just scored the second run when the Browerville first baseman missed the throw from the pitcher on a pick-off move to Tanner Shelton, who was looking to steal second.

Andrew Weller scored B-B-E's first run of the game in the top of the second inning on a passed ball.

*Late game update...the Jaguars and Tigers are in a 3-3 tie after the sixth inning.

And the Jaguars win! Final score: B-B-E 5, Browerville 4. The Jaguars advance to play the winner of the Ashby vs. Upsala/Swanville Area elimination game. B-B-E's game starts tonight at approximately 5:15 p.m. at Russ Jacobson Field in New York Mills.
